I know this is a long shot, but every time I see Jack Detroit sets or chips come up for sale, I really want to buy them, but I really can't afford a full 500-600 chip set. Plus my regular home game group rarely has more than $1K on the table (we play .25/.50 w/$50 buy-ins and 6-8 players). So I was thinking I'd try to put together a mini set, ~240-300 chips, for under $500, if that's even possible...
I'd like a minimum of a full rack of $1s and $5s (non-GOs), and then 2 barrels of $25 (secondary watermelons only). They do not need to be sharp! I'd actually prefer nice and buttery used, especially if that helps make the chips more affordable!
That'd put me at 240 chips and a bank of $1600 ($1x100, $5x100, $25x40). I'd then complete this mini-set with 3 barrels of 50¢ chips, making the total bank $1630, which is plenty for my game (instead of .25/.50, we'd play .50/.50). I plan on overlabeling some Paris $2s that I already have for the fracs.
Willing to build this a few barrels at a time if that gets me the best prices. So if you have some Jack Detroit chips that you've been felting regularly since TCR sold them ~7 years ago, and you might be willing to sell your most used barrels at catch-and-release pricing (I wish) or as budget-friendly as possible, I'm your huckleberry!
