Things That Are Bullsh*t (97 Viewers)

PCFers are obsessed with playing with their chips, but a big chunk of them seem to try to go out of their way to avoid making change at the table. Seems to me like that’s just another opportunity to play with your chips - cutting them out, passing them around, restacking them.
This is more irony than bullshit.

There are times that I have absolutely no idea what to offer because there is no recent precedent of a sale to go on.

Say I'm after an extra rack of $5's for my Protege set (cheap plug, 2 racks actually!). These chips haven't changed hands publicly in several months outside of a set sale or two. I'll be honest and offer a price that may be too low, but I understand how it may be hard in some cases to come up with an asking price that's not insulting.
 
Excuses. You know what you would pay! You have the set so you know what you paid before.

If someone wanted to sell them, they’d have a price, so when you want someone else’s chips, you gotta put a number out there!

No problem starting low and working your way up. Or going high and getting them immediately. It just comes across like your being cheap and trying to advantage of someone imho but I still understand not knowing the price to a degree*

But there’s plenty of starburst sales to know they fell in the $150-$400 range. And if you don’t see them often, then you know you’re on the upper range.

P.S. I post wanted ads without $$$ to so I’m a hypocrite!!!

Yea not a lot of recent sales other than 130 of them in Dec which sold for $169. Price added but it's flexible if the rack fits well.

Doesn't even need to be starburst but I figured those are the easiest to find.
 
I think it would be acceptable for singular items. There’s an item I would like to have but I have exactly 0 clue what it would be worth and even if anyone here has one or would want to sell it to me. But ya, asking for things in quantity needs a price range.

Idk what the price is. Search says 1 set has sold in the last 5 years. It was last year at $1.60 a chip.

Does my putting $1.60 a chip publicly get it done? Does $xyz? Realistically, the price doesn’t matter. It’s a not high end set that isn’t highly sought but has very few total sets. The people that have them like them. Maybe one day they decide it’s time to move the chips on to someone else who will love them.

And that’s why I have a wanted ad I’m bumping.

Yes, for tons of examples a price is needed and should be there. But for some wanted ads, it’s more so a forlorn cry into the void, a daily plea asking “have I spent enough effort bumping now to make you reconsider?”.

Historically I just don’t pm. I find it a tad intrusive - hey can you do this hey will you do that hey I know you said trade only but can I buy this -

Sure, I know it’s a me problem. But I also know people who get a ton of that stuff and HATE it.

“Here’s 30 racks of trade bait, none for sale, unless they are”. While this type of listing invites the PMs by the boatload, I think it propagates that unsolicited pm behavior.

Sure plenty of people do listings that are purposefully meant to do that (I have friends who do it, I roll my eyes) but they at least pretend to care go hide it.

And now surprise, 0 chips traded for, some sold. I could pm and ask if what I’m interested in was sold already and if not is available for purchase, but it’s just not my thing. And that’s okay for all parties involved.

I sold 1 rack of LE $4 for $400 and I sold the 28 Holland America Cruise $5s for $50 shipped.

I don’t think anyone is whispering lol. I’ve done the exact same thing.

I don’t think it’s appropriate to discuss it in your sales ad tho so I can’t walk over there lol

you’re kidding right? I listed the ad.

I also don’t care what things sell for, although I’ve long touted that for sale classified listings ghost closed without a sale number update arent helpful.

im pretty sure what he’s referring to here isn’t that you didn’t post what you sold chips for by the way.

Hes saying that you sold chips without listing a for sale price.

Which while not your intent is generally done to either realize max market potential or private auction by pm.

But way to both be sassy AND misinterpret.

It’s done quite frequently as I mentioned, including by my own friends.
 
I guess this is things are bullshit thread and I don’t necessarily think it’s bullshit or that big of a deal I suppose. But plenty of people including myself I’m sure have posted trade ads with the intent to trade and certainly will take offers without posting a price. Pretty common so not really bullshit.
