TLDR: Please vote on the line up of edge spots below that you like most (1 or 2) :)

Hey everyone, working on yet another design idea for some Tina chips. This one is the "Canadian Cash Club" and is a cash set based on Canadian currency. I planned on using these chips with those MSK CAD $ plaques that were done as a group buy like 5 years ago. I was able to find a few $50 plaques, but haven't been able to get my hands on the $20 plaques yet. Here's a mockup example of a version of the whole set:

For the inlays I have drawn out ideas of what I'm thinking, basically a Protege knockoff as I love that look and it lets me use animals/nature on the chips.

I think I've narrowed down what edge spot styles/colours I want, but I'm looking for some help on which of the designs to choose:

OPTION 1) Here the $0.25 and $1 look like an actual quarter and loonie:
CAD Cash Club_Option 1.webp

OPTION 2) The idea behind this line up is that the "number" of edge spots of each chip is how many chips of the previous denom needed to make that chip (ie. 4 x $0.25 = $1 so the $1 has a quarter pie design...4 spots. The $5 has 5 of each shade of blue because 5 x $1 = $5...etc etc):

Here's the Chipmatic link if you wanted to look at them in more detail: https://chipmaticstudio.com/share/SXJsMHvfyg075MWU7W1DW

Any thoughts are welcomed as well, but I'm mostly looking for a vote of which line up you prefer.

Thank you!

I like 2. I like your idea behind it. It’s a bit unusual to go down in number of spots as the denomination increases but it’s a smart idea.

How many 20$ plaques did you need?

I updated Option 1 to look even MORE like real coins lol, not sure if the colours are too similar on the edges to show up though...

Option 1 for me. I really like the 11 sided coin thing you have going on with the $1 chip. And in general I'm really digging the color progression. The silver -> gold -> colors just sorta makes sense, even though it's not traditional.

It's a dead heat with 6 total votes!! (1 of which may or may not be mine...) :ROFLMAO:

As a few of you have mentioned, I definitely think the $1 turned out the best. The $5 is my second favourite and the $0.25 is the WEAKEST lol...I might end up making the $0.25 without the edge marks to look like a solid, but the edge marks make sense for the theme........

I know what you're going for with the loonie, but I don't think it works with the rest of the set.

The currency colours are represented across all chips, but the patterns are not. The only pattern-to-currency representation you have is the loonie

I'd prefer a set with light and dark colours across all chips with consistent spot patterns that align with the 5 and 20

Consider adding a small maple leaf after or below the dollar so it is clear it is cad. That was what Im considering for my tiger cash chips.

Ya, you're not wrong. Though technically the 25c and the $1 have the same design element (ie physically looking like the currency) and the $5/$20 have a different, bud jones kind of style, spot pattern.

I planned on using these chips with the plaques I have posted in the OP but there isn't a $5 plaque so I needed something for the $5 chip. I really wasn't sure what to do with it to represent a $5 bill. The best I could do so far was make it have 5 spots (with alternating light/dark) and then the final chip will have a blue maple leaf in the background which has 5 "spots" :D

Then for the $20 it will have a poppy in the background which has 4 "spots". That's the idea at least :)

Any other suggestions?

The name "Canadian Cash Club" didn't give it away? haha

And yes, in the gaps on the left/right of each chip I will have mini icons. I will use the little leaf, inside of a leaf, inside of a circle, that is featured on the Loonie:

If ur not comitted on full custom chips, i wanted to share that an idea you can do is relabeling tiger chips. The showboat grey, gold, and sky blue match the quarter loonie and five dollar bill asthetic. Its also larger for your inlay to show details. It might not even be all that expensive if you only need 1 table.

Haha, I think we have a different idea of what “expensive” is lol

I’m more on the side of $0.75 USD per chip is my upper limit, that’s why I’m looking at Tina’s. How much would those custom Tigers be, $10? :wow:

300 chips for 7200 ish but then you wont want to buy any other chipset haha. All good tho good luck with your tinas!

Holy Christ I can't imagine lmao.

But I think you might be wrong there...how many PCF'rs do you see buy ONE set and say they are done? :ROFLMAO: That's why I'm going Tina also, I can make 3-4 designs and have some fun mixing it up.

Maybe one day I'll graduate to CPC or NAGB sets!

IMO the chipmatic 25cent canadian cash club chip looks pretty dang nice but the kerning between the numbers should be a tad bit tighter.

Do the ones in the top 2 rows look better at all? Or do they now just kind of look weird? And or...do you still just prefer the bottom row? @SteveEH

The loonie is a clear winner. For the rest, what do you think of having a semi-transparent backdrop art based on the older series "bird" bills, especially if you're going with a $20 chip? Maybe the caribou on the frac as well.

I love those bills!

I was planning on doing the semi transparent backgrounds with the following front/backs:

25c Caribou/Queen (to look like the quarter)
$1 Loon/Queen (to look like the loonie)
$5 Maple Leaf/Maple Leaf
$20 Poppy/Poppy

I thought about doing the Candarm on the $5 but I think it’s too small to decipher what it would be. Maybe I can can add those birds on the reverse side of the $5/$20. I’ll have to think about this some more tomorrow. Thanks for the idea!

Not sure about loons on two of the chips though lol, maybe swap the loon with the owl which I love.

The owl is my favourite too, I think it’s a great candidate for the $20. And you have the goose for the $100.

Maybe poppy/maple leaf on a custom chip (NCV/buyin/bounty etc) to keep an animal theme on the cash chips?

Looking forward to seeing how these come out anyways.

So I was doing some thinking and since I’m very committed to the $0.25 and $1 looking like the actual coins I wanted to do the same for the $5 and $20.

My new idea is to use the same Maple leaf and Poppy on the front, but then on the back I was thinking about putting Terry Fox on the $5 and King Charles on the $20 to match the upcoming vertical $5/$20.

I’m thinking that would be cool. The coins would be legacy style and the “bills” would be future/current style.

Here's a very rough mock I've made. The design again will look like the protégé chips where there's a white background, a transparent "icon" and then the denoms hovering on top of them. So combine the above styling for the denoms and fonts with the icons below. Have to use your imagination here :)

Yellow dollar and green 20 look the same to colorblind ppl.

Use the Queen for the $20. Use the king for the $1. The Queen is on the 20 but not the King irl.
