Hi everyone. I joined and learned about this community about 3 days ago and went on the hunt to create my first custom Paulson cash game set. I didn’t care about perfectly matching the different denominations. I kind of just went on vibes and what colors I thought might go together nicely. I’m a little sad that I ended up with no THCs, but overall I’m very happy with how it turned out—I’ll post screenshots of the set all together once everything comes in.

***Important Part***
Please take a moment to roast me on any and all aspects you can think of for my set. Any chip collecting faux pas (relabeled chips mixed with original chips; conditions of chips not matching; mismatched inlay sizes/shapes; etc). Please also point out if I got ripped off on certain racks (prices of racks and chip id’s listed below). At the end of the day I’m really happy with my set so please don’t hold back—this is more to understand the current chip collecting meta. So please don’t hold back. I promise my feelings will not be hurt

Chip IDs and Prices:

100 0.5c Terrible Used for $360
100 $1 IOC relabeled as Horseshoe Good $450
100 $5 Casino Aztar Used $180.6
100 $25 IG Near Mint secondaries for $300
100 $100 Mint Harrah's for $184.60

If I were to roast anything, it would be the overuse of pink, without the consistency of a pink spot on the $1.

I'd be more than happy to play on that authentic, casino-used set. If you really get bit by the chipping bug, this is a great start to build other sets on. :cool

First of all, welcome!

Number one concern for me is different conditions across denominations. Will lead to uneven stacks and they’ll feel different to handle and shuffle.

Also don’t care too much about giant inlays, especially mixed in with regular ones, but that’s perhaps more a question of taste.

I’m not super caught up with prices but at least the $1s seem overpriced.

Welcome, and this set is a great start!

I won’t subject you to the full depths of my obsessive compulsive brain, but will add a few more detailed points, some covered by others already.

0. Your Set - Putting this before other points because it’s the most important. You said you’re happy with the set, and that is the absolute best thing. Love what you have, regardless what others say/think about it. It’s your set, your money spent. Everyone has the right to buy whatever they want if they have the means.

1. Condition - Different condition chips in the same set lead to different sized stacks and in general a much different feel. I can imagine a lot of casual players not noticing or caring about this.

2. Dirty Stacks - I’d be curious to see the $.50 and $5 chip mixed together in a stack. Sometimes pink/red can be close, especially if they both share a spot color (both have a yellow and blue spot). This may lead to some betting errors.

3. Breakdown - This largely depends on how you’re planning to use the set, but it’s rare that having 100 each of 5 different denoms works out optimally, especially for a cash game. Every game plays differently so it may end up working for you, but it’s a very top-heavy set with so many $100s. Most games using quarters won’t even get the $100 chip into play at all.

Honorable mentions - Please ignore these. I just like to hear myself talk. But here are the things that would bother me personally, in addition to the points above:

- All have yellow/yellow-ish spots, except the $100
- All are Paulson RHC, except the $100 (house mold)
- 2 oversized inlays, 3 traditional sized inlays
- All are casino-issued as-is chips, except the $1 which is relabeled from another casino

The man asked to be roasted so roast him.

Your breakdown will drive 99% of the forum bonkers. Thats the biggest issue IMO. It makes no sense for any stakes that you plan on playing. Playing with that breakdown would be painful.

Next issue would be the mixed condition of your chips. Given you are putting a mixed set together, trying to make it cohesive requires chips to be of similar condition. Wait until you have all the chips in hand and you will be disgusted at the choice you have made by selecting the aztar $5.

On the topic of the Aztar $5 you have picked a chip that is consistantly mentioned as one of the ugliest inlays ever. That aside, generally mixing different sized inlays is a faux pax around here. Having said that you could get away wiith it just for the hundo as there is some leeway given for the highest denom in a set to be a little bit "special" or "fancy" and the harrahs ticks that box.

so find another rack of ones, chose a different $5 and get at least 3 racks of them and you are will on your way of having a nifty first set of paulsons!

alternatively keep the 1s and fracs. sell the rest and buy this set and relabel the 1s.and fracs you have to hsi.

Agree with the prior posts: main issue is the breakdown, which doesn’t work for most cash games, and the varying conditions (used/worn all the way up through mint).

Aside from that, I think you overpaid for most of the chips:
-you could probably get the 50c chips in that condition for something closer to $300 (slight overpay)
-not sure about pricing on the $1s bc they’re rarely sold (fair price), but for $450 you could probably find 2 racks of comparable $1s for the set
-$5s are worn and not-so-easy on the eyes; anything over $1/per is an overpay;
-unsure about pricing on the $25s so let’s call this a fair price
-Harrah’s $100s are currently on sale from the original vendor for $1/per

The beauty of a mixed set is that you can change out denoms over time. When you decide to try to make the conditions more consistent, you’ll probably need to take a loss to get rid of some chips.

Can't really expand much on what's above so...

Things not to roast? You said "First", meaning there will be another. My man. Also, the word "Paulson". You didn't come in and buy nostalgia slop or knockoff casino/fantasy versions of Tina chips. Finally, you bought PCF's 2026 "Best Red Chip" in the wonderful Aztar $5s. Who said shitposting would ever leave a newbie astray ?

(Go visit this thread before setting up for Round 2.)

Welcome and thanks for sharing.

I'm starting to think that Casino Aztars aren't actually PCFs goated red chip :unsure::unsure:

This cannot be overstated - you have the most hated chip in PCF history. That is noteworthy.

Welcome To the Forum.

Your poker cup journey is just beginning. Enjoy what you have, but nothing is your forever chips you can always swap or upgrade whenever you feel like it.

Great start. I really like the Harrah's $100 Black+Pink.

Your first set of Paulson’s on PCF are kind of like your first time getting laid. You make some mistakes, you didn’t know exactly what was supposed to go where and you even put a few things in the wrong place. It barely counts and you just have to get it over with to move on to the good stuff! You learned some things you do like and probably a few things you’d do differently. And there’s no one way of doing either, correctly! Do what makes you happy! Except the chip breakdown. That’s awful, you don’t want to be left playing all by yourself, so fix that. 🤭

Blows my first set out of the water. The breakdown is actually not terrible for .50-.50, 8-handed nlhe. 10-10-12-1 stack to start. $25s and $100s for rebuys. Any other blinds or stakes? No, not so much.

This looks like a set Corky from Life Goes On would have made ....

...... You told me to roast it......

If this is 3 days I have a feeling you are going to end up with a full set of every casino here by August

Good start!

I have no issue with mixed inlay size or molds. I do think the extra wear on the $5 would be my first area to address. Next upgrade I'd look at a different $5 and try for 3 racks. That will make the set much more playable and there are a lot of options out there.

I don't know what the hell those $1 chips are (or were.) They have me confused.
