*EDIT: I have been contacted by the seller & he is going to honor the original dibs. All has been made good - thank you PCF community!
Good afternoon fellow chippers,
I recently responded to a "for sale" post for some minty chips for $_____. Within 5 seconds (yes I'm that chip autistic
) I call dibs. Then immediately message the seller I'm in, and here is my address!
I'll be getting these minty fresh chips soon right???
Well, that's where this story takes a turn for the worst... About 15 minutes goes by and the response finally comes in: (is it the email address to send payment??
)
*paraphrase*
Hi Jason! Thanks for responding, although I give PREFERENCE for dibs in this sale I'm not beholden to who first calls dibs. I'm in negotiations with another member for services and would like to trade these chips to them for such a service. I'll let you know if it doesn't work out!
Well I'll be... Sure enough i click the view button and at the very end is that silly little phrase:
"Iāll give priority in the order dibs are called, but I wonāt hold the sale for hours waiting on a PM if someone else is ready to pay, that wouldnāt be fair to others. Just expressing interest doesnāt count as dibs. Also, I reserve the right to choose who I sell to, regardless of dibs."

(emphasis my own)
What does that mean exactly??? (We'll I'm about to find out and it's not what you think either I'm afraid)
Ok fair enough, not sure if that was there when I called dibs originally but I'll give the benefit of the doubt. I'll wait.... Indeed wait I do with no response.
I message again, and then I'm told this new tidbit of info:
"Iām hoping to work out a deal with him (vendor) for a discount on the _______ and _______, but Iām not sure if thatāll pan out. Just to be fully transparent, last night someone messaged me and offered $5.50/chip. Iām not looking to turn this into an auction, but I like the idea of recouping a bit more of my losses."
So, there we have it. GIVE ME MORE MONEY. It was really never about the person reserving the right to sell to, it was about finding out how much he could sell these for after the fact if indeed he did list these a little low... His quote at the end is the sales thread before closing it sums it all up:
So my question remains: Should a seller be required to sell chips listed at said price after "dibs" is called? Or is there nothing wrong with waiting for others to PM higher offers and take the highest bidder?
Feel free to chime in, and I would love to hear the seller (whom i remained anonymous) defend his position here in the thread. I'm all EARS!
THANK YOU,
Jason
