And let's face it, if it was legal for anyone to produce chips with that mold, I'm sure Claysmith and/or other consumer poker chip companies would be doing it, considering the Top Hat and Cane logo is iconic in poker chips. But they don't because they don't have the rights to. The chip mold and logo are part of a company's brand/trademark/copyright they own and we should all respect that and avoid doing anything to infringe on it. And I'm pretty sure it's illegal to use it on any poker chip whether the artwork be a live "tribute", defunct casino or complete custom design. But I'm not a lawyer so I can't say that with 100% confidence. I'm sure someone would try and argue fair use or something like that since it's a facsimile of the original and not trying to counterfeit it. Again, not the point. We all know that mold is Paulson and we should not use it period.

I bet CPC would probably have big time issues with Tina if her next mold was one they own and have exclusive rights to produce. Don't know what legally CPC could do to stop it or what, if anything, they could do to any individual who contracts to produce and imports Tina chips using their exclusive mold? Maybe @David Spragg could chime in and give some insight from the point of view of an entity that exclusively owns and currently uses molds in the daily function of their business?

Yes. And fwiw, I think most people who shout “Fair Use” don’t really understand fair use. I’m pretty sure there’s a lot more to it than “I want to use it so that’s fair.”

For those who design cards mold chips, what blacks are you using? On paper, I don't love any of the blacks in the swatches of Pantone colors Tina provided that can be seen here

Unfortunately none of my designs have gotten to the proof making stage so I dunno if there’s any issues with certain blacks (hello, no-context thread). I’ve just been using plain black (000000 or 0/0/0/100). Can Tina not produce that?

I can't speak professionally about the printing a dark/rich black color issue, but I do know there is an issue with it. I don't think you want to use 0/0/0/100. I know it seems counter-intuitive, but this won't give you the best black color.

I do know this is the color code for the nicest black color on the cards mold color wheels

I ask for deep black from Tina when it goes to production. I had one set that came out somewhere between Charcoal and Black.

Ceramic chips are formed under much higher heat than clays. It would require a much higher heat to soften them, and that temp may be high enough to damage the colors.

That is, if you can even get them to soften. Some plastics can be heated again and again to make them soft, others can be heated only once to manufacture, then are hard and brittle until they burn. Not sure which one ceramic chips fall under...any scientists here?
 
Yeah, sounds like a science project idea, but I suspect @Colquhoun is right and you probably can't flatten them without damage.

I tell anyone buying Tina chips to just order 10% or so over what you need if the possibility of spinners is a big deal.
 
Hey Guys,
i was in contact with Tina about some Mold Chips and was asking about the Molds they use and she responded "diamond mold, top and cane mold, cards mold" --> i know the Diamond and Card mold but the "top and cane" ?

This whole thread has me intrigued that there are decent looking chips that I can possibly afford someday. This whole “Tina” thing seems so mysterious. Is it a real name or a code name? Lol.

Seriously, a few questions:
1. How often do group buys happen?

2. How do I get involved in a group buy?

3. What is the website to order on my own if I want to?

4. How much would someone charge me to design my chips? I have no idea how to and would like custom chips.

1. They happen randomly, hard to say at what frequency. Group buys for personal custom designs seem to have slowed down, and group buys for preexisting artwork that are available to the public seem more popular now.

Yes shipping by air is an option. I believe it's 10 days, but price is steep. It might be okay if split between people, but that's up to your wallets.

IMO, it's better just to be patient. And it's Chinese New Years at the moment.

Not sure what you are asking exactly. My order will already be “turbo”. Tina won’t be back to work until January 29
