Turn up your hearing aids and finish your prune juice. Wheel your ass on down to the game room for “Poker night with Pat”

I finally got to start my latest volunteering gig dealing cards for our beloved senior citizens. We played 5 card stud, draw, and 7 card stud. I wanted to teach them NLHE and PLO variants but they all said no. I think there is an old phrase about that, something about old dogs…no pun intended.

Everyone’s buy in was $4 and the Coke Giraffes were a hit! And by hit I mean nobody cared or said anything but they were able to tell the nickels apart from the quarters.

Marie and Ed (seat 9) were the big winners walking away with about $7.50 a piece. Bill fell asleep and I thought he was tanking. Probably should have yelled at him. George in seat 1 squeezed my thigh really hard every time he took a pot down.

It was the best experience I’ve had dealing and it was great to spend time chatting with Bill, seat 3 Korea vet that fought in the Chosin Reservoir and Tom, seat 7 who banged it out in Vietnam.

If anyone knows of any spots in the metro Detroit area that would enjoy a poker night please let me know!

I’ll be back at it twice a month next month!
I’m thinking of adding maybe a .25 hold ‘em bomb pot to start. Maybe double board eventually. Once they get that down then PLO.

Circus games I can barely play myself. Lol no way I’m dealing scarney or whatever you cowboys play. They would skin me alive.

Well done. A few years ago before Covid my wife and I and a friend dealt NLHE at our local VA Hospital for about 20 veterans who were in the hospital.

We donated all the cash prizes.

They said it “beat the hell out of playing bingo on a Saturday night with pieces of fruit as prizes.”

I agree.

Thanks for doing what you did.

That’s awesome man! These folks talk about bingo like it’s a death match. They said poker is way more chill and nobody is throwing things at each other. Lol

This is great. I want in.
The fact that anybody is playing 5 card stud cracks me up though.
Hey I talked to the activities director and she said they want to run a few more tables if I can find more dealers. Hit me up on the DM if your interested. Right now I deal Thursday nights at 630 in Livionia. Days are flexible to change though and I wanna do a Sunday afternoon game.

I'm in. THUR evenings and Sundays work for me in most instances

What kind of chips are you using? I see you're getting some Bellagio tributes with 300 nickles :)

We may end up running 3 tables total. Do you think that 300 will be enough? Lol they basically play all limit as of now.

My current set is some Sac giraffes with 100 nickels, cards mold. Do we even have to say card molds anymore? I assume every chip I see is card mold now lol. But yeah cocaine giraffes. I love them and the players could care less haha

Both nights so far there has been 2 players that doubled their buy in.

“Wild” Bill was one of the winners at the table, seen here splashing a handful of nickels directly into the pot. He gets a pass though because banged it out in Korea back in ‘51 and for that he will splash the pot WHENEVER THE F*** HE WANTS.

He is a hell of a card player though. Raises everything. Deep thinker as well. Every time I go to tell him it’s on him,he reaches for chips. Now I don’t even remind him cause I know he is counting the pot for a raise. Lost his $4 buy in and re-loaded for $5. Then he scooted away at the end of the night with almost $14 I think.

I love everything about this. I worked in a nursing home for a total of 5 years as a CNA and then a LPN. This is a wonderful way to give back to this community. Following with great interest! Thank you for your contribution.
