As I've done the past two years, I will be doing another golf marathon fundraiser in July to celebrate the anniversary of my cancer surgery. It's strange to think about all that has happened in the ~three years since this whole thing started....

Anyway, all funds raised will go directly to the University of Wisconsin Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center's Head and Neck Cancer research fund.

Last year I played 108 holes and raised just under $5,000. I plan on playing at least 100 holes again this year and hope to beat the $$ total from last year.

I would be most appreciative of any amount you would like to donate this year. No donation is too small! There are a few options for donations:

1) Flat rate donation

2) Pledge a certain $$/hole played

3) Make me earn it and pledge:

1¢ / stroke
$5 / eagle
$1 / birdie
10¢ / par
$1 / hole-out from off the green
50¢ / 1-putt
25¢ / 2-putt

These are just suggested amounts and would have resulted in a donation of just under $50 based on last years numbers. If you would like to pledge different amounts (e.g. $100 / hole-in-one...LOL :)) just let me know!

I will also consider any other options that you crazy folks can come up with.

Here is the link to my fundraising page: connect.uwhealth.org/goto/jstangl2016

If you want option 1, you can make your donation at any time by using the link above.

If you want option 2 or 3, I will post the numbers within a day or two after the event and you can click the link above and make your donation.

***For every person that chooses option 3 I will pony up $1 per 3-putt+, $1 per double bogey+, and $1 per lost ball (O.B., water, woods)***

For those considering option 3, I am currently a 7.8 handicap and will be playing from the white tees at my hometown course this year. I will do a rotation of the Red 9 / White 9 / Blue 9 until ~3pm when I will play the Blue 9 (due to leagues on the other 2 courses) until I run out of energy, daylight, or golf balls.

Red 9: Par 35, 3035 yards
White 9: Par 35, 3077 yards
Blue 9: Par 35, 3096 yards

Here are the stats from last year's marathon:

Holes Played: 108
Total Strokes: 491
Total Putts: 192

Eagles: 0
Birdies: 6
Pars: 38
Bogeys: 55
Double Bogey+: 9

Chip-Ins: 1
One Putts: 27
Two Putts: 75
Three Putts: 5

Lost Balls: 9

I'm in for Option 3 at these rates:

1¢ / stroke
$5 / eagle
$2 / birdie
$1 / 1-put/hole-out from off-green

Nothing for pars, 2-puts, etc, other than the penny-per-stroke.

Go earn it. :D

Earn it!

$10 every time you break 40 on 9 holes (39 or less)
Extra $10 every time you shoot par on 9 holes
Extra $20 every time you break par on 9 holes
$10 / eagle - incentive!

I've been thinking of doing something similar as I play a lot and love golf.

Fantastic work. How many times did you break 40 in this last year? Based on your strokes and handicap I'm guessing 4 times?

I'm in for a flat hundo. You've already earned it. Just tell me how to send it.

Thanks Rob! You can either donate through the link about halfway down in the OP (I just made the text blue since it may have gotten lost in the wall-o-text) or PayPal me if you'd prefer to keep your info off their mailing list.

Awesome idea. Thanks! Here are my 9 hole scores this year (all at my local course just outside Madison):

43 / 37
37 / 40
41
44 / 44
42
39 / 35 <---w00t...personal best 18 hole score!
41 / 41
43

According to my handicap website I was under 40 on 9 holes 12 times last year, and under par on 9 holes 1 time (happened to be at the course I will be doing the marathon).

If you want to change your pledge at all based on this info just let me know :)

It wasn't clear to my weary mind and bleary eyes I could just click and donate.

Good luck in the event. You're gonna smash your fundraising goal i'm sure.

Yup, this ^^.

Chase and I said our tearful goodbyes yesterday as she's moving soon. But we say, "Go, Josh!"

I will be golfing with @bergs on June 17 prior to a Foxwoods visit. I will pledge $25 if you play more holes than my total score for 18. I am a 19 hcp, but the beers will be strong and flowing freely. An additional $75 if you play more holes than Bergs total score for 18.

This is fantastic. I will pledge $2 x the difference between each of your scores and total holes played in July if I come up short.

Example: If bergs shoots 132 and I play 112 holes I'll donate $40.

I just got off the phone from a totally out of the blue call from my surgeon. While he's not making cancer his bitch he helps coordinate a few events throughout the year. One of the events is the "Heads Up!" golf outing for head and neck cancer research at University Ridge every year. This is their 10th year doing this outing and it's a great time. After golf there is a dinner followed by a brief program featuring talks by a few survivors. I was out of my mind thrilled when he asked me if I would be interested in speaking this year and am really looking forward to it! :)

Anyway, I thought this was as good of a place as any to share my excitement.

Absolutely great, Josh!
I will be making some sort of donation, again!

In for a Hindi! PayPal?

Awesome - thank you!

PayPal is absolutely fine if you're not concerned about paperwork for tax deduction purposes or if you would prefer to keep your name/address off their mailing list. If you need or want this tax documentation you can make a direct donation (link is in OP). It's totally up to you :)
