Assuming you enjoy peat
I prefer the Laphroaig over the Lagavulin.
But Edradour is my preferred all around.
My top of the chart...

Time to dust off the bottles in the main cabinet. There must be something here worth drinking after dinner tonight...

Four of these will be coming to the SQM (but not the Macallan 30 -- that's our wedding whisky). If you're on the SQM attendee list, which ones might you like to taste? Vote for no more than four.

Unbelievable bottles, Larry! Wow!!!

I would gladly drink any of those for sure. Talking about a once in a lifetime opportunity!

My 4 picks would be: Glenrothes 1974, Old Malt Cask Port Ellen 24, Signatory Ardbeg 1974 and Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant 1954. As I said though, I would be delightedly to try any of those beauties!

Hopefully this time around we will carve out some time to enjoy a dram with the proper respect those bottles demand! Thanks Larry!

What's your favorite wisky @ChaosRock ?

Really hard to say @1A25R . I am a huge fan of Islay and more often than not, I'll reach for a peat dram. Depending on the day I can give you a different answer regarding my favorite Islay distillery. Bruichladdich is putting out some great stuff lately, and so is Bunnahabhain. But it's hard to beat the Lagavulin 16 from a value perspective. I had a couple of samples of Lagavulin 25 200th Anniversary and it might have been my favorite dram ever. It costs 20 times what a Lagavulin 16 does though. :(

From a Sherry matured malt perspective, it is hard to dismiss some of the Glendronachs Single Casks, specially the ones fully matured in Oloroso, but those are a punch in the face with concentration. For a more subtle sherry experience, a Glengoyne 25 is definitely up there.

Now, if I had to pick just one distillery, it would have to be Springbank. Not for everyone because of their "funk" but definitely a favorite of mine.

Yours?

It's a cycle .. I don't have a favorite, my favorites today are Macallan on Sherry Oak, Ardbeg, Suntory Yamazaki and Bruichladdich Octomore but if I had a cigar i'll go for a Dalmore. As for blended; "Big peat"

I agree. And of course, when you choose Springbank, you get Longrow as an included bonus! :p

Absolutely! Longrow 18, yummy!

Good choices, mate!

I was actually having Octomore last night before heading out to @detroitdad 's birthday poker game. Big fan also.

It's funny you mentioned Big Peat. A couple of days ago I was doing a Big Peat vs Ardbeg 10 comparison. When I drink, I usually pour two different drams at the same time for comparison. Anyways, very similar profile between those two but I gave the edge to the Ardbeg 10 myself. I have a feeling after Caol Ila, Ardbeg is the second largest component of Big Peat.

I’ve been on a little bourbon kick recently and it brought me back to this thread. Any thoughts on the Blood Oath pacts? Also, I know people speak highly of Angel Envy. Thoughts on their different offerings. Was looking at the rum cask bottle?

Hey Scott! Already recovered from the Pats SB celebrations? :p

I never had the Blood Oath myself, and you mentioning makes want to open a bottle. What I've heard from friends is that although it is a good bourbon (specially Pact 2), for the price, there's better alternatives out there. It's become a collectable series, with Pact 1 commanding 4x original retail already. If the intention is to buy a bottle and pop the cork right away, I think I'd pass personally, but if yo did buy it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I think the only one you'll find around is the Pact 4.

Regarding the Angels Envy (Port finish), that's a different animal in itself. I used to like it a lot more a few years ago than I do now as I'm drawn more often to higher proof bourbons. Also, because of the Port finish, it does have a sweater fruitier profile, which depending on the occasion can be nice. For the price though, $40ish, I tend to always have a bottle of it around. A lot of my friends like it a lot. Regarding the Rum finish version, I don't believe it's bourbon. To me knowledge, it's a Rye whiskey, although they might have done a bourbon as well, I don't know. Heard great things about the Rye and would definitely buy a bottle if the opportunity arrises. It's a sweet version of a Rye whiskey but it's very well thought of. It's about the same price as the Blood Oath, and I'd prefer to get the AE Rye myself.

I hope that helps man, and that we can share a dram live soon...

Thanks man. My local has a 3 pack (1-3)of the blood oath where the case was damaged. It’s still not cheap, and I fear if I bought it, Id lean toward collecting as opposed to drinking. But still very tempted.

You are correct AE rum is a rye. It’s well stocked so, I’ll probably grab one eventually.

I’m off to Turks and Caicos this week with the family, so I’ll also check out duty free. Will we cross paths again in the Caribbean?

I don't think we'll cross path this time around, unfortunately. Turks and Caicos sounds a hella good right now! I hope you and the family have a great time there...

One of those days I'll get a bottle of the AE Rye as well. So many whisk(e)ys, so little time (and money)!

I've tried and tried to drink Bourbon/Rye/Whiskey .. and it isn't my thing. I will say, one of the few that I can drink without push back is the AE Rye. it is super smooth. Around me, it is now going for $80-100 a bottle. I'm told they were purchased by another company a year or 2 back, and changed a few things. I'll have to get my story updated from my local bourbon aficionado.

Now, I know it's not really a whisky vis a vis this thread, but I saw you do several shots of Fireball at Dan's...

Off to Ireland next month.......I've had Red Breast and Yellow Spot tastes and liked Yellow Spot, but any distilleries or ones I should make it a point to try? I am a bourbon guy but I hope to enjoy the Irish varietals.

Where in Ireland? I did the "Behind the Scenes" tour at the Midleton distillery in Cork - really enjoyed it. Jameson Cooper's Croze is a lovely tipple.

I also did the "Irish Whiskey Museum" in Dublin - not really a museum but a lot of fun for not much money - especially as another solo traveler and I hit the bar after and sank quite a few.

And for me, I prefer the Green Spot :)

Flying into Dublin for a couple of days and then heading around the country. Cork, Kerry, Galway, Northern Ireland, not sure of the other towns. I figure I’ll make it to a pub or 10
