Any interest in reviving Dunes Compression chips (1 Viewer)

In that case, I am most likely in for 600-800.

Not in the market right now, but for the noobs that seem to be joining us, I just thought I'd mention these are a steal at .30/chip. May be the best bang/buck going.

noob here, definitely would be interested given the price.

I would also say to the noobs that this is a great opportunity to get both a cash and tournament set without worrying about security so much. You can use .25-$25 chips for the cash game and $100-$25000 for the tournament game. The only downside is the potential for people to bring chips to the game that they also bought. That said, security doesn't seem to be a big concern with the home game hosts we have here as they trust their regulars.

Who manufactures these? Do they have the same sharp edges as the Paulsons?

If enough of you guys are interested I might order these. I would need to have at least 25,000 sold to do it.
I could have a pre-sale for around $.30 each. View attachment 40158
Let me know. (image borrowed from Ovo)
When do you think these would be ordered and produced? It appears there seems to be a bunch of interest. We have many noobs that I am sure would participate.

Who manufactures these?

A factory in China. We don't know the name of the actual manufacturing company so far as I'm aware, and for the most part I'm not sure that it really matters much in this case since we know the quality of the original CC line was solid.

Do they have the same sharp edges as the Paulsons?

I'm not sure that any CC line has sharp edges like casino-grade compression clay chips. All the cc's I've handled have either beveled or a slightly rounded edge.

Ok thanks. My guess is all these China clays come from the same manufacturer, just with different molds / designs.

The degree of bevelling varies, though. Desert Palms and PGI china clays have the least in my experience. CPS had the most, and others are in between. I don't have a sample of these, so I have no idea where they fall on that spectrum.

Different material and different forming process...the Paulson's, BCC, and the likes were high-temp compression molding first and machining off the edge to meet diameter/dimensional spec. You can always see the machine marks on unused chips... While, IMO, the China Clay chips' compression molding process molds the chips to dimensional spec without any further machining. For higher yield and easy thru-put, they choose to "bevel" the mold. IMO, they can tweak the mold a little bit to make the edge "less beveled", however, for most factories in China, they do really like the challenge... Again, IMO only...

That would probably be more expensive, not less.......

Well I don't have the funds right now but I did purchase the other commemorative DUNES chips back in 2011ish from appache and unfortunately did not care for them. They were really slippery and couldn't be stacked very high. Ended up selling them to a friend for mega cheap. These look like a much better quality chip and seeing the side view of the edge spots one can tell that they are compression molded due to the flaws in the spots. At .30c p/chip I would definitely get some of these and recommend them to many other poker friends. All my $ has been towards the kids and house+other responsibilities that just come way before my interest in anything I could want . 25,000 chips sounds like a ridiculous amount to take on but I bet they're gone in a year or so or less. I say please get them so us broke and new chippers can get something that makes us feel like we're "in" like the prestigious collectors to which we drool and dream about every time we look at the classifieds and galleries. GET THEM and make us all happy

Thanks : Ariel/ARIEL DESIGNS

Are we close to the number we need? I am sure some of us could bump up some if need be to close the deal :)

I'm pretty sure the 25000 will easily be met. Hopefully Josh is investigating whether or not the 8v can be added to the set to closer approximate the 500. More life like edgespots? (y)

I see in the picture used that the edges are not rounded off (like milanos or CPS chips) but is that the case in reality? I hate the rounded edges and if these have the full edge I am definitely in for 1000.

I was wondering, also, by looking at the photo posted...
@Apache Can you confirm?

I think the CPS results really scared the shit out of people. IMO the reality is the CPS was a one-off. I have majestics (that I love) and they too are slighty more beveled than I like. I think and hope the idea was/is a return to the edges on the pharaohs. But perhaps it also has something to do with the manufacturing process.
At the end of the day you don't want "sharp" edges on China clay chips. They don't wear like paulson's. They chunk/chip. A slight rounding, slightly more than the Pharaohs is ideal. But that's my opinion.

I'm in this camp as well. I'm not a fan of the super beveled edge on the CPS chips or the slightly less beveled edge on the Majestics. I could live with the latter, but much prefer what I remember of the original Dunes china clays.

Hi Josh,

Didn't Jim have a problem with the colors on his last order? I know the $5 chips looked like they had been bleached by the sun and were not the nice deep rich red color of the originals. The $1 chips were also a lighter blue.

Count me in for three to five hundred if the colors match the earlier shipments.

Edges from worst to best:

*Not all CC's present!
**edit: I just realized how good that majestic chip looks. It's not indicative of the average.

CPS
Majestic
Pharaohs - ideal
Milanos
Desert Palms

I feel like the milanos aren't indicative of the average as well. I only ordered 50 around a month ago but they all seem to be closer to what majestics (even CPS) look like. But I agree I the edge of the pharoahs are ideal.
