So I started going to AA meetings as it's time (past time really, but that's another story...) and on day 1 I got a plastic white poker chip with a 1 on it. Kinda cool to keep in your pocket to remind you of the mission. Then at 30 days I got a red one with 30 on it and I'm thinking that it looks pretty cheap, so why not just get a couple real poker chips. They'll look and feel nice in my pocket and won't cost anything. Ha. I started to research them and within the span of a week have bought samples from Amazon, CPC, Apache and the poker store.
I began with a nice looking 14g Monte Carlo that I love, except that I'm somebody who treasures quality and of course found out it's not really clay, that it has a metal disc in the middle and has a glue'd on sticker. So onward to clay only and to questions about compression manufacturing, hot stamping, foils and of course real casino grad chips that cannot be purchased new anymore... What's with that?
My wife immediately saw the signs as she's had to put up with excessive hobbies such as motorcycles, guitars, etc. I told her that this won't cost much of anything until I realized that well, in fact it could. I've already thought about buying a barrel of used Paulson's. There's a saying in the guitar world that you can never have too many guitars and I suppose it's true for poker chips as well. The other saying is that when I die, don't tell my wife what I really paid for the guitars.
All this from the humble beginning of having a reminder token in my pocket! Funny thing is that I don't really gamble and don't enjoy card games. I haven't been to a casino in probably 15 years, but did enjoy playing craps as it's pretty easy if you play smart and stay away from the prop bets. Never lost at a craps table except when drinking...
For some reason I could not post on the 'what's your first name' thread but it's Vic. My handle linux has to do with my engineering background (nerd) but I'm retired now.
I have many more questions but I'll post those later. Right now I'm waiting for my hot stamped chips from CPC
