Here’s hoping 2020 is the last year at Rio!

Important positive points:
  • WSOP most likely moved to the strip. I'd bet it will land at the new Caesars convention center, slated to open April 2020.
  • April 2020 is in time for the WSOP, but some executive has enough brainpower to realize nothing in Vegas opens on schedule. It also allows them a full year to work the bugs out - and new buildings always have bugs.
  • Moving out of the Rio = new WSOP chips! :wow:
  • Rio likely will have a name change in 2022 or 2023- that also means new chippies! :wow:. Of course, that assumes that the new owners will have a casino, and that they don't just level the building creating a dirt lot for the next 10 years. :nailbite:
  • "We are committed to retaining top talent" - shitty dealers, there's the door...

Wouldn't the strip become an absolute nightmare if they held the wsop at Caesars

Ignorant but curious... do WSOP chips fall under the nevada destruction law, be it that they are NCV chips... I assume the answer is yes, but would be awesome if they could be released!!

I don’t think so, at least when compared to other times of the year. Attendance for the WSOP pales in comparison to CES and some of the other large Vegas conventions. I think poker players tend to overestimate their impact in Vegas.

The WSOP would still not be the biggest event in Vegas... not even close. There are a number of conventions that have far larger attendance figures. CES is 20x larger, and there are at least 30 other conventions that draw in bigger numbers than the WSOP.

But if actual numbers aren't enough to convince you, Caesars has historically offered discounts during the WSOP. Try getting a discount during March Madness, New Years, or CES.

Fair enough. The big50 seemed a shit show though, it was crazy busy all around the Rio.

Parking at least seemed ok at Rio. I would imagine parking will be tougher at Caesars too.

I know I'm a Vegas noob, but it seemed good that it was off-strip.

I remember a few years ago I was out there for the barrett Jackson show at the same time as the second I heart music festival... I thought it was going to be terribly crowded with people... i didn't notice any difference in crowds other than around the MGM and Mandolay Bay event halls... vegas is a huge place, a few thousand extra people is just a temporary blip .. I agree with you @Hornet

Parking will be a real bitch. I rented a car ONCE in Vegas. I will never do it again. Uber is affordable and so much easier than renting a car. If you stay on the strip, a rental just doesn’t make sense. YMMV.

I am too drunk to drive about 75% of the time there anyway, so I have never considered it haha.

I really enjoyed having a car, well it was American so I'd classify it as more of a boat than a car, but still.

Places like Rio, Wynn and spinettis were bloody miles away.

I haven’t seen the plans but would anticipate they include a parking garage. Plus we know how they live to charge for parking on the strip.

There is already a parking garage on site. The new convention center is being built in an L-shape around it.

The strip property also means more people will be able to walk to the WSOP, leaving their cars at their hotel.
