Just as a background, every 6 months I have to take a fitness assessment as a requirement for the Air Force. Today was that day for me . It's a huge deal if you don't pass but since I did, I'm planning on playing in Event 71 ($500) Salute to Warriors from 2 July - 5 July (skipping the holiday).

Win or lose I'm just ready to have fun. In some off chance I make the final day, it would be my 8 year anniversary of joining the military.

Will be using this for updates while I'm there as well

How odd that they declared the tournament to be 40 levels. If you go heads-up on level 31, you can breath easy any hand you go all-in. You can't be eliminated for another 9 levels.

;)

Just booked my flight. Paid $108 (with taxes and fees inc) for a roundtrip from Sacramento to LV. It's with Spirit Airlines which probably isn't the best airline but for a 1.5 hour flight, there was no point in going with a major carrier.

So that's quite new?
Well, I do not really follow WSOP since 3 yeas now, but the only cheap tournament that I was aware were reserved to the dealers.

The first "Colossus" was in 2015. The event was, at the time, the lowest buy-in bracelet event ever for the WSOP. It drew 22,374 entrants (includes rebuys) the house raked $1,454,310.

Compare that to the $1500 event run the next weekend, where the WSOP's share for hosting the event was just $276,900.

The Main Event is still the most profitable, but these "Average Joe" level buy-ins were a new fixture, and they were going to expand them.

So I'm having a tough time deciding where to stay. These are my options

Nellis AFB: $70 a night (no resort fees/taxes) , a little ways away from the strip, would need to rent a car to get around

Rio: away from the strip, would have to uber back and forth to the strip. Don't plan on making it past day 1 so wouldnt be spending much time there.

The Linq/Flamingo/strip casino: little more expensive, won't need uber (only to get back and forth to Rio), close to everything else (walking distance, no DUIs for me)

I also invited a friend so there's a potential of costs being split. Opinions welcome

I reckon Bally's would be a good bet. I really enjoyed being at PH, but when I ran a search for 2nd - 6th July, Bally's came out cheaper than all of them. Its central and has a cool poker room with the best $5s of all time.

I'm glad I stayed on the strip, rather than at the Rio. @kmccormick100 stayed there just recently, maybe he can offer an opinion.

Bally’s was a great central location, nice enough rooms, short poker list usually, and a nice gym hidden in the spa that justifies the resort fees. Would stay again for the price. Also stayed at Paris which was nice and would recommend. Central location on the strip is worth quite a bit in my mind.

Check prices on the Gold Coast Rooms......They redid them all about 6 years ago......walk to Rio.

Play Well.

I believe the Gold Coast still has a free shuttle to the strip. Might be worth checking into. Also, the Rio has special rates for the WSOP.

There's also a free shuttle between Rio and Ballys/Harrahs

I'm staying at the 'Coast' though... ;)

I had heard that the Rio shuttle was discontinued, but I haven't been to Vegas in a few years. I'll be there next week, staying at the Rio so I guess I'll find out for sure. I'll be playing in the bounty event starting Wednesday so hopefully I run good and won't need to go elsewhere. Are you going for the WSOP?

I know it was operating either last year or the year before, but I guess it could be gone now...seemed like a popular way to get to the Rio for "normal" guests...

And yes I'll be there in a week and a half :)

So i just made my hotel reservations and i think i made a good decision. To stay on the strip from July 1st to the 6th would have been between $800-$900 because of the holiday and friday night. For the first 3 nights I'll be at the Linq for $33/night so with fees and taxes it came out to $231. Then the next 2 nights I'm going to stay at the hotel on Nellis AFB for $70/night (no taxes or resort fees) which is $140. For the last 2 days I'm going to rent a cheap car for $105 to get around and get me back to the airport.

All totaled up my accommodations and rental will cost me less than $500 for the whole week! I recently sold my 36mm WSOP chips so that will cover my buy-in to the tournament and my stay so i'm really coming out of pocket for the flight which was like $100 plus whatever else i spend on food and extra gambling (maybe a rebuy ;)

Not too bad for a week in Vegas
