First off, I love Poker. We have a weekly Thursday night friends game thats been running for some 18 years.
You can read about how our chips walked out in my first thread posted on PCF here
https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/newb-here-chips-walked-away-from-an18-year-long-weekly.89265/

My chipping journey and time here has been rather short but I'm quickly getting deeper and deeper (in debt, haha j/k)

My first set of non-dice chips are an awesome 1000 chip set of Bud Jones CIC's that I purchased from this site only a month ago.
My group loves them and I love them. I just can't see myself hauling them around (They heavy) week to week at whatever house our game ends up at, so they will stay and play when I host at my place.

It's really hard and time consuming (haha only been at it a month) to piece together a full set of Bright colored THC's with edge spots I like or BTP/RPC's and murdering them for my own desire seems like a waste of perfectly awesome looking chips (No offense to all the murderers on this site.) I get that the chase is part of the hobby but so far, I only like chips, I don't "collect" them. I'm sure that will change, I do have some barrels on the way of BTP T100 & T500 chips but the quantity needed in lower denoms to get a playable set is just crazy $$,$$$.

So my journey continues but quickly realizing I need to go full custom and just get something done

I wanted to create a design that meant something to me. I was always on the water in the summer months growing up in Michigan. My younger years were spent cruising the Detroit river or traveling to Toronto to visit family near Lake Ontario. In college I lived in Kalamazoo and spent a lot of time on Michigans West Coast on Lake Michigan and in my late twenties my in-laws had a home on Lake Erie that I had free reign with all their water toys. Fishing in Saginaw Bay for some amazing Walleye fillets took me to Lake Huron often. Our Deer camp in Baraga/Lanse Michigans Upper peninusula was right on Lake Superior and I've jumped in during the frigid months of November as a Camp initiation. Now the wife and I like to visit the area's Lighthouses when we travel around different parts of Michigan.

So the Great Lakes theme is where I landed and since Michigan has more Lighthouses than any other state with 150, that is incorporated into the design.

I came up with about 5 different idea/iterations and finally fell in love with this last one. I have not finished all the denoms yet, or the colors/edge spot design/color. I wanted to put it out here for constructive feedback first so I could finish. Each Denom Chip will have a different lake name at the top (or bottom?) by the size of the lake as the denom goes up. What should be tweaked, moved, deleted, etc?

I want to thank @Eloe2000 for the inspiration and the Tropic Club Ai file to start with for which I could build on. I know it draws some design elements from Casa Mango's as well, but I think it's different enough to be classified as "my own" design.

So here it is are a few mockups of slightly different designs.

I love these. That primary font is fantastic. Great graphic. Love the theme.

The dollar sign is annoying me because it makes me see the denom as off center when it's really not.

I think the black line around the inlay should also be removed from the first 2. If they were cut off on a real inlay on part it would drive me insane. (The first one is out anyway, "club" in the middle is messing with my OCD as well.)

Maybe the lake names in reverse type, white?

Smaller primary font? Do you think it's too big?

Please point out things you would change that I might be missing. I'm OCD but I'm a new chipper and some obvious things might not hit me like it does all of you.

2nd one for me as well. Very nicely done, will be interesting to see a full line-up. So you’re doing both a cards mold and a CPC set on this theme?

For the dollar sign, I would remove some space between it and the denom.
For centering, I would move the denom to the left to where it all “looks” centered.

Visual centering is always better than mechanical centering, because who cares if it IS centered when it looks like it ISN’T. :ROFLMAO:

Agreeing with everyone here, #2 is the clear front runner.

For centering the denom, center the amount without the dollar sign, then manually place the dollar sign where it looks best is what I've always done

Great start! This one is going to be killer

I’m unsure at this point. I thought I was, this question threw me off, CPC’s 100%. Cards molds, maybe. I bought a cash set of replica Cards mold chips last week. I should have them in hand tomorrow and if I like them I still might.

Thank you, I needed that . That $ is hanging way out there.

Centering the denom: I center the denom with dollar sign (or cent sign) and then nudge left or right until it feels good. More of a weighted center than an actual center.

Ring: on the cards mold, they won’t get cut off. If you like it, keep it. For CPC, outer rings need to be of a certain thickness to come out ok, as the inlays are cut by hand and not always perfect. If you’re interested, I can dig up the width.

For fonts and all, I like what you have. Play around if you want. And if you look back at old casino chips, the small city font wasn’t always crisp, but—as it isn’t the focal point—who cares?

I personally like 3, maybe a white ring like so. Love how white rings can make an inlay pop.

Thanks, I will keep playing around with the placement and sizea bit more. Then I can start working on Base colors and edge spots.

I like the middle one.

But the C on the bottom is better.

As noted, the $ sign may be better if it's tighter to the numbers.

Might look better without the Lake Michigan text on the top.

Also prefer the prominence of the lighthouse on the top one.

Hahahaha. So funny. Nothing wrong with a little French toast!

I like #3. I would get rid of the lake up top. Doesn’t really add much IMO. The label looks cleaner without it.
I like #3 also but only for a Cards Mold set most likely and I agree the Lake name on that design doesnt add much.

I think the white background label would probably look best on a CPC CSQ mold and I like the Lake name on the White. I have not made a black background label of #2 yet though to see what that looks like in the Chip designer. I'll be working on these this weekend if my 10 year old doesnt beg me to play a round or two of golf.

Thanks, all the comments have been pretty helpful so far.

Too bad you can’t do bear claws on the CPCs though

I know, that was the plan for Cards Mold chips. The CPC chip designs I've been working on start at L2 and work up to a L11. I haven't added anything up yet but I can see it really starts cranking up $$ past L5.

Regarding CPC minimums, can you break down the minimums @ less than 100 per design if the total still adds up to ie: chips x500 - x5 designs but a breakdown of 200, 100, 100, 50, 50?

Yes!
