Hello,

I am working on my first custom set and it will be a cash set. Denominations will be $1, $5, and $20. I was hoping some of you experienced chippers could give me some feedback as to what colors work well together. Here are two of the mock-up I had in mind. 1-5-20 left to right.

I love the $1 chip in this set and I think this will be the one I get.

I think I like the $20 in this set more than the one in the first.

The inlay is being worked on - I just threw my logo in there for visuals.

I welcome any suggestions or criticisms. Thanks in advance!

No issues w/the color selections; I'm generally a fan of seeing yellows and purples combined, as well as hues of red/white/blue.

As pictured, I'm not a huge fan of the top lineup at all. That's the most complex $1 I recall ever seeing, as well as the simplest $20 I've ever seen. The $5 figures to be your workhorse chip so you want it really enjoy looking at it; I find 412 spots with a single spot color excessive and boring both on the face and in stacks. I can very much appreciate going with a level 1 or level 2 spot pattern for your workhorse, but level 3's aren't THAT much more, and adding a second spot color OR making the spot pattern more interesting can really liven up the chip.

Conversely, I find your bottom lineup MUCH more interesting. The progression seems a little more natural/intuitive to me, and that 3DS316 pattern is much more visually pleasing. I like the spot pattern used on the 1 in a vacuum, but as the lead chip of the set, and particularly with the $5 using only two colors, I'd suggest sticking with a single spot color on the 1 (probably white, a darker blue, or even a dark red/maroon). If you want to stick with that pattern and those colors, I'd probably feature the white spot more and splash the pink vs. how you have it now.

I like the inlay design...nice, simple, classy. Are these all going to be NCV? If not, where will the denom go? The reverse side, perhaps?

top left $1 chip

bottom $5 chip

and make the $20 bottom chip with similar split 2 spots, dont know what they call that but the similar patern as the 1 and 5 split spots

looks good to me

Thanks for the all input so far!

Great point - I didn't consider that and have adjusted accordingly. Thank you.

They will not be NCV - I have J5 working on the inlay now using my logo as the inspiration. I don't know if I like the cards on the inlay or not, so I am hoping to see what he can do with the design.

Here are the adjusted mock-ups - please feel free to continue commenting.

Love the new $1 and $5...especially the $5!!

Not sure if it matters to you but you've used 3 colors on the $1 and $5 but only 2 colors on the $20.

Some people don't care but for my set (which is out for delivery today! ), my $1, $2, $5 and $25 all have 3 color combos. I want to do a $100 but haven't been able to find a 3-color design that I like so I skipped the $100 (for now )

Good catch! Any thoughts to a good color to go with the purple and yellow? Do you have a link to your chips?

I like the spots but play around with the colors. I have no set suggestions for you but play around for a while. The 1 and 20 are very lively and colorful but the 5 is lagging behind IMO. Keep the M red base but change the other 2 colors around, try some dayglo colors?

this is just my own personal thoughts of course. But again it looks great

Man this is tough. I played around with the $5 and now I have a few that I like! How does one decide??

$5s.png

#1 was the original redesign - now after playing with them I really like #4, #7 and #8.

Yeah, here's a link to mine: http://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/magginis-cardroom-sample-order.6754/. Final mock-ups can be seen in post #25 and a larger pic in #29.

I like #2 the best w/the blue and yellow. The yellow edge spot leads into the base of the $20. I wouldn't do the larger edge spots in yellow if you're going to keep the $20 base yellow. I did something similar in my first set and they were hard to distinguish in a pot -- which one user had pointed out to me.

Here's some $5 and $20 combos that I played around with.

Added a few more. Sorry they're all individual attachments - not sure how to screenshot them in rows.

@Dale_Doback Thanks for helping out! I am still playing around with these and need to figure out how I want it to look as a set. I will come back to this after I get the designs done and back from J5.

I like the latest $1 and the original top-middle $5. Not sold on any of the $20s yet.

Still messing with these. I scrapped some of my original ideas and this is where I am at now. Cost was one factor, also I wanted to add on a quarter for lower limit games. I still need to order/borrow a color sampler but this is what I am thinking. The inlays are just a place holder, I am in line with J5. I would appreciate any and all feedback. This will be my first real set of poker chips other than my Milano tourney set.

Definitely a better sense of edgespot progression here

It might mess up your nice edgespot progression, but I'd like to see what a quarter-pie on your quarter chip looks like.... My mind went instantly to a $0.50, since it's half-colored. I'd want a quarter for sure.

Lots of yellow in the set. Maybe a more orange $5, instead of a body color that's close to the $0.25 yellow? Or incorporate another color in the quarter?

ETA: for the inlay, perhaps a larger font for the demonimation.

Thanks - I thought maybe there was too much yellow as well. I changed it up a bit here - I think the 5 still needs some work, and I love the 1/4 Pie. Let me know what you think. Also - the inlays are just a concept, it's my logo but I've asked J5 to change it up a little while keeping the same overall concept.

That quarter is SICK! Somehow the $5 & $20 seem to clash color wise. Change the green in the $5 to something bright like day glo orange and tweak the spots on the $20.

The quarter and the 100 look great to bookend the set! Like ACE'S said, I'm not sold on the other three.

Yeah - I share your comments - the $.25 and the hundo are done. I need to work on the other three. I will play around tonight and tomorrow and post another mock up.

I think the fact that the $5 has the main color of the $1 in the edgespots, and the $25 has the main color of the $5 in the edgespots is what's subconsciously unsettling to me. Either that or I'm looking for more Mountain-themed colors. The quarter is like the lake and field at the bottom of the mountain. The 100 is the flag planted on the top. My brain works funny sometimes....

Maybe green on the way up for trees, something assertive like climbing gear colors for the workhorse $5s, then the blue/white icefield near the top before the victory flag 100s?

I never thought about mountain-themed colors - Windy Crest is just my street name  - but you might be on to something.

So after much thought and time well spent on the design tool, this is my next iteration. I loved @inca911's idea about an overall theme and this is it. I am still on the wait list for the inlay, but I am thinking simple on one side, think rounders with them denom and an abstract image of a mountain range. The other side will have Windy Crest Poker Room and the pertinent details. Scroll mold of course, because it looks like wind going around the chip.

Thoughts were:
The quarter - Base of the mountain forest, shades of green and brown.
The $1 - A crisp mountain lake with pink hues reflecting off the water (And this is my favorite color combo  )
The $5 - A deep mountain sunset or a camp fire for the night
The $20 - reaching the rocky crest with blue skies and snow/clouds.

I am still messing with the color sample I borrowed - and would love the community suggestions/opinions! Thanks all - can't wait to get started on the inlays :)

Not crazy about the edge spot colors on the quarter but love the $1, $5 and $20. I'm actually working on a new set and am using the same colors you have on the $1...
