Why WTHC are so expensive (1 Viewer)

They are a super quality compressed clay chip, on a desirable mold in great colors and inlays. However they are no longer produced by GPI/Paulson and are basically disappearing down into (or up, in price) the collectors market.

I think they were just an early grail set that a lot of people still consider to be a grail set, so supply and demand makes them expensive.
I’ve never handled the suits mold, and for those prices, I’ve never seen any reason to give them a try.

I have played them both cash and tourney as @Lil Tuna owns a nice set up. I like the chips but at those prices they are not for me. As said above they seem to be the "best" home market chip from years past and many people still hunting and collecting them. In the $2.50 - $3 range and readily available I could see myself going after a set, but at a point $3.50 - $4 it would be hard to start building a set at that point. If you already own a good chunk of your set obviously it is still in the ball park and I absolutely would pay that to finish a project. But I feel the price has been set for those who already own them to continue if that makes sense!

Best of luck with your hunt @seb120 I hope you find what you are looking for and welcome to this crazy roller coaster we call the Chipping Hobby!

WTHCs are the chips that got me into this crazy hobby. At the time, I thought they and Le Cove’s were the nicest chips I’d seen that were casino quality for a home game.
As I got into the hobby, my tastes grew, I discovered other things and realized I liked variety. Today I would say they aren’t my favorite set but they’ll always hold a special place in my chipping heart as they do with other collectors.
Personally, it would take much more than $5 per chip to pry my set away from me but that’s just me.
When something is limited in supply and all the sudden becomes available...... you get my point.

They’re pretty. They don’t have denominations, so they appeal to the non-dollars crowd in addition to tournament players. I’m not sure how many runs, or how big of a run was produced. This was one of the later Paulson home molds. It also seems like people have some pretty healthy sets of these. If a jillion were made, the last point might not be significant.

edit to add: More than a couple sets of these may have gone to Europe, which is usually a one-way trip due to transit costs and taxes.

Anyway, welcome to the forum!

Great colors, shaped inlays, good mold, broad appeal and were plentiful for a while. I picked up a bunch at a reasonable price years ago and kind of wish I'd kept them.

Supply and demand my friend. I've seen these being sold for a reasonable price around these parts, you just have to keep an eye out on the classified.

Some things money can't buy.
Soooo...If I just said the word "Please"...would you box up the set and ship ' em to me?

100,000 chips per run. Dunno how many runs.

WTHCs are just a solid set of chips, regardless of what people on reddit. People know that and the supply is just so low now that it is more or less a universal grail set. Wish I was in the market just a few years earlier to get a set that's not ridiculously priced as it is now xD
