Picked this up in a small lot of other casino chips.

I've seen Internet examples of other ceramic chips over-stamped "Frontier Casino Calgary" and I've read all about the casino's history.

I know what it is, I just can't find why it is. Any insight appreciated!

Maybe a printing error by Chipco? Accidentally used an existing chip instead of a blank?

That would explain how Vegas chips made it into a Canadian casino

Cost saver roulette chips? That's my best guess.

Could be. There are a number of these chips pictured on the Internet so I don't think it's a one off, and that would explain the lack of a prominent denom. But they are such an eye sore :vomit:

Because it was a naughty fiver and needed to be taught a lesson.

Waiting on a response from Cowboy's casino. It occupies the same address as the former Frontier.

Messaged an eBay seller and got this response:

1. A casino wanted a chip and simply bought other chips and overprinted their names on them, for maybe a free play or comp chip..(sharkeys did this) etc.

2. The manufacturer did this at the plant either to cancel out a order so the original casino wouldnt take a hit. or

3. A simple error making the chips as the process can go by fast. And maybe

4. A test to see how the design looks and they just re-use some extra chips.

As far as the Frontier these may have been used there or not, simple answer it varies. Or just not sure.

Possibility #4 seems likeliest.
