Chipco used to make these incredibly sexy blanks that were as square as mint paulsons:

Also, they had zero injection port holes on them. I speculate that maybe it was because they milled them off after the blanks were produced, but who knows. If someone could recreate this mold with the square edge and textured face, I would die (so would my wallet). So, what do you think is the reason? Where did these late eighties, early nineties molds go?

I too would love a square edges ceramic, the mold dropped off the face of the earth and no one, not even on here, knows anything about it.

Would love to know more, but this is lost to time it seems

It seems like Gene and @ABC Gifts and Awards acquired a lot of the old assets from Chipco, whom later sold to PGI, whom upon closing in 2018, was bought by ABC.

Is there any chance this could be done today Gene?

The modern chipco / protech blanks aren't square either. I've been tirelessly searching for this mold for a long time :(

They aren’t allowed to use Chipco blanks for the general public
Bummer. Might be exclusive to casinos only if the technology to duplicate the chip in the OP exists.

I can imagine that from an injection molding perspective, having an bevel or rounded edge makes life a lot easier in ejecting from the mold. Not to say it can't be done but it'll be a challenge, perhaps with many reject chips. Now having said that, Sunfly is open to making new molds for their ceramics and while it's a lot of money for an individual, it's not that bad if spread over a large group order. May be something worth exploring. I'd definitely be interested in square edged ceramics.

Those Kash Casino (ICON/TCSJOHNHUXLEY) ceramics had a sharp edge.
I was working through a reseller and ICON ultimately came back saying they only offer limited customization on the edges. I'd only be interested if the chip face and edges were 100% customizable. For instance, they could NOT do something like the $5 in my OP.

Are the ICON chips from TCSHUXLEY a truly dye-sub printed ceramic chip, or are they more like an injection-molded plastic?

The blank might be but the color/design is only on the chip surface so not injection molded IMO.

Here's a picture of the textured chipcos that I own compared to the ICON ceramics.

The textured chipcos definitely have sharper edges, but not as drastic as the Regency chips @rjdev7 posted.

And @Tommy is right about the ICON chips. Sharp edges and no clear injection dimple.

Sunfly hybrids (more rounded than the others) for comparison.

I have (accidentally) in the past. Solid white ceramic throughout

I mean compare the white material in the middle and how the break. I think the Kash ceramic is different. The ceramics I got from PGI broke more like glass.

This is the first rack of ceramics I've seen that have the exact "wave" pattern as the Regency $5s. Those palace casino $5s are so hot! Kind of makes me want an entire mixed set of just these edge patterns :)
