Just curious about this I have always had a set of Paulson PCA chips and wondered why they felt so clunky and not like real Paulson chips I would play with at a place like the Bellagio

The HSI chips are 8 g and feel a lot closer so I was just wondering what was going on there since they are both made by paulson and for casinos...

With CPC, the different colors (dayglo vs regular) have different weights as well. In addition to Paulson using lead, are there also weight differences between colors?

Okay so that is really cool to know that means these PCA are probably just ancient

When did they change over? And is there any inherent risk in using chips that have lead in them I have to ask lol... I assume there was a reason they changed

Unless you're grinding them up and snorting them, no, they are safe to handle. I think they switched over in the early 2000s? Maybe even late 90s. I'm sure if you searched on here, your get some good info about leaded chips.

There's a decent timeline

Yes @Damani311 ... I'd be happy to take those PCA clunkers off your hands.

Leaded chips are regarded as some of the best, buttery chips out there. My Outposts shuffle like no other.

Maybe OP's clunky chips are just minty vs. somewhat used? Mint clay chips are simply atrocious to handle, you gotta break them in first.

In older chip formulas where there was a huge component of inorganic compounds used, there is indeed a significant difference in weight between colours within chips of the same size, apart from the extra lead/metal flake content.

More modern chip formulas use more organic/plastic compounds and dyes, which means there is less variation in weight, and also allows for more discreet variation in colours.

You have to understand my playing timeline, when they switched in 2000 or whenever I couldn't legally gamble
The only Paulson's I handled were post 2005 casino grade so that's why they felt heavier, which they are actually 25% heavier

Older folks probably are used to both
Do you have any pics of them? I'd be curious to see if there's any reason that they would be clunky to you.

I got into chips only a few years ago, and I can absolutely tell the difference between a leaded and unleaded chip by feel. But honestly, my leaded chips are not mint and my more modern chips are, and the leaded chips just shuffle like a dream. They are the exact inverse of clunky.

By clunky maybe he means life-changing.

Only reason I can come up with are the the bicycle tyre like worn fivers…
or OEM PCA hooker juice

You don’t have to defend liking what you like. Those of us telling you the 10-12g leaded Paulsons are far superior to the 8 gram unleaded Paulsons are the same people who will tell you that 14g slugged plastics are too heavy.

Personally I think that leaded Paulsons might be the apex of western civilization, and unleaded Paulsons are a joke (unless they’re 43mm or bigger.). But we’re all entitled to our opinions.
