After seeing the Riviera set last week (wish I knew they were closing as I was just there in Dec), I was wondering how many people have sets of chips from casinos that are still open. Not so much classics (like the old Tropicana's) but recent sets within the last few years. I've always wanted to go to Foxwoods/Mohegan or Atlantic City and buy a nice cash set right from the cashier (hand them a grand+ and walk out with a ton of 1s, 5's, few 25's and some fractions). Does anyone do this (is it even allowed?) and if so, lets see the pictures :)

Look up Kadrik's Bellagio set. Simply amazing.

Ditto on Kadrik's Bellagio set. It is the Mount Rushmore of live casino sets. There are a number of people with live chips (usually fracs and $1s) in their home sets, but Kadrik's is nothing but live Bellagio chips all the way up to $100s the last time I checked. Truly amazing.

First three pictures here:

first four. those fracs are his, too.

I am especially digging the $3 and the $20 chips ...that's a dream set (not to mention those chips are classy looking)

love those quarter chip colors ... should have picked those up instead of the Garden City's to make into Aztar quarters (would have been cheaper too)

I used to... got some home game use but the red I really kept to avoid the hassle of hitting the cage twice a session. Eventually I cashed in the reds because I stopped going as often but still have the singles and rack of snappers.

Flamingo 1's and 5's are live
All of the Venetian are live
1,2,2,50,5, 10, 20, 25, 100 Caesars are live

Now I'm itching to do this with Borgata chips.

Then again, for that price, I can get custom Matsuis.

Then again, it's not a price, it's a deposit.

ARGH!

If I lived near Vegas, I'd do just that. I'd get a nice set from Hooters as I like the house mold and spots. Play with them for 1 year then sell them back.

Most amazing (to me) is that he doesn't live in Las Vegas, or even Nevada. Hell, he doesn't even live in the USA. So much for just running down the street to cash in a hundo or two when funds get temporarily short....

Agreed; makes it all the more impressive. If I made a big investment in a Borgata set, and heard the Borgata is closing in in two days under bankruptcy and their chips would go unredeemable, I could drive down and cash them in. He'd have to fly halfway around the world.

If I wore a hat, it would be off to him.

...or if the Borgata was closing all their chips would be thrown in the chipper and he would own perhaps the only set on the planet.

actually NJ casino chips retain their value in perpetuity. you can cash them in with the casino control commission even after a casino closes.

Only if the casino voluntarily makes an orderly closure with permission from the Casino Control Commission. For example, Trump Plaza chips are redeemable, they wound down operations in 2014.

If they close in bankruptcy, however, they become valueless. The Revel closed the same month as Trump Plaza; Revel chips have effectively no value - you could present your claim for chip redemption at bankruptcy court.

looked for a gif of someone flushing a piece of paper down a toilet, but the google image returns were not really the types of things i wanted to wade through at the moment.

Did anyone score a set of Revel chips? I assume the Trump ones would not be around since they can be cashed in still

I never took better pics after cleaning them - that pic is at the end of Harvest Day, right after I finished collecting them all (and after I found a dead table in the poker room to take the pictures, since the floor stopped me out in the casino.) Gotta get around to that.
