Which Jack $25? (1 Viewer)

Which chip makes a better tourney set?

The T25 chip is so often a near-forgotton stepchild in most tourney stack lineups, so I really like using the spectacular Jack secondaries, and giving the T25s a chance at glory on the felt for a change.

That said, they probably pair better with the secondary T100s in that set.... and the primary T25 chips pair better with the colorful primary T100s.

But I'd use 'em together, anyway. There's no chip confusion or dirty stack issues, just really colorful pots. :)
Are the 500s Primary or Secondary in this set?

(and my newbie question: why does this casino use two color schemes? Is this common for casino chips?)

The 500s in the OP are Primary.

By gaming law, most (all?) states require that every casino have two sets of value (denominated/cash) chips. The main set (or Primary) are the ones in play. The back-up set (or Secondary) can be brought out to replace the Primary chips if the latter becomes "compromised" in some way (theft, counterfeiting, etc.). I assume that if the Secondary are used (becoming then the new Primary), the casino must design and purchase a new Secondary set ASAP.

With chip security being what it is, I don't think Primary sets have much risk of getting "compromised", which means that Secondary sets sit nice and tidy in their vault and stay mint/unused until the casino closes down.

This is a tough problem for me as I have recently caught the desire to build a tournament set of Jack chips ...

The problem for me is even more profound because I find both primary and secondary editions of both $25 and $100 denoms to be very attractive all in their own way but maybe not together as a set.

To help with this, I just will be buying multiple racks of each and then when I felt them for a tournament I can play around and mix it up.

My wallet won't be deep enough to do this with $500s and up though...

So I finally got my Jack tournament set in play last night... I wouldn’t say it was a big problem, but in “warm” lighting (rather than fluorescent), the wide pink edgespots on the watermelons and the orange on the 100 secondaries do kind of pick each other up.

When 1Ks are also in the same pot, there’s a lot of hot pink-on-orange action goin’ on... Which is mostly awesome, but a color theory purist might object. The similar width of the spots also contributes to them merging a bit.

It wasn’t such a big problem because the black vs. green vs. orange bases make it easier to distinguish everything. The white on the watermelons is also a distinguisher. Confusion might come in splashed pots, not dirty stacks; when stacked, the black makes it obvious.

I may try swapping in the plainer 25Ps for the watermelons next time. My only concern there is potential confusion with the 500S's for two players in the game who are colorblind I don’t have enough 500Ps to make that double switch.

(And then... I’d have to assess the impact on my Jack cash set of moving the watermelons over. I could see some overlap between them and the secondary hundos. My overlabeled 5s also have an off-white (smaller) spot, not to mention the 1s and 2s (Jack Cincy) could have some issues. OTOH, though we play some 2/5, there aren’t usually a ton of hundos in play.)

yes, I like secondary better, but primary works better for tourney set

I use primary $25s and $100s for my tourney set, and I now have two barrels of secondary $25s and one barrel of secondary $100s that will almost certainly never see action in my cash set lol.

I use the $25 secondary for my tournament set as they are too good not to use. The primaries are cash for now and backup tournament.

Completing the cash set was the best thing I did as I can now get the $5s in play for long periods of time.
