I've been buying too many chips too quickly, but now would like to acquire a casino set. I don't mind piecing different denominations together from different casinos, and aren't looking for something to put in a closet and wait for the value to increase, but something for live play. Mainly interested in nice colors with cool edge spots. Seems like there's a lot of stuff on eBay, but can someone suggest some names of closed down casinos I can search for? Stuff with lots of supply out there that I can find easily and for cheap. Oh, and would like to stick with Paulsons!

Well, There are many choices and you just have to wait for some to appear here or on eBay. I would consider these as a small start. You can get many if you are ok with used chips right now on eBay.

Terrible's
Casino Aztar
Empress
Casablanca
PCNY
President Casino on the Admiral
Crystal Park
Even Steven
Grand Victoria
Garden City

Also

Oak Tree Casino
Aces Casino

I would remove Crystal Parks and PNYs from slisks list as the can be quite pricey and hard to come by.

Can you tell us if you're looking for a cash game or a tourney set ?
Paulson closed casino tourney set would be a bit more expensive than a cash game set.
GL with your search :)

Depends a lot upon your definition of 'for cheap', especially if you're eyeballing Paulson chips that aren't in casino-worn condition....

A T10000 tournament set is pricey in the big denoms, but T1000 or T2000 isn't too bad. Denominated fracs can get pricey in a cash set too. Plus cash sets are typically larger.

If you get enough 1s-100s, a set can easily work for cash and tournament. T500 tournaments with a Dave approved blind schedule will work just fine.

You can find used paulsons for less than $100/rack, even on eBay.

Garden City chips are way under 100/rack for the low denominations on eBay ......then the oversized go crazy expensive :) Even if you hate the casino, you can relabel them for cheap

Another cheap set of casino Paulson's are Casino Aztar Indiana ....... they are slowly going up in price, but you can still score 1's, 2.50's, 5's, and 25's for cheap. Even the 100's are not too bad when they pop up. 500's and 1k's are getting a little bit crazy on price (glad I got a bunch already but still could use more). I am very happy with the Aztars (though I regret going with the primary 25's over the secondary, which were a brighter green)

Right now I'm thinking cash game set that I can supplement with some home Paulsons to do a T1000.

The most economical/available is probably Garden City. They're a CA casino, so colors are a bit different from the usual denoms. 1/5/25s should be pretty cheap - they're also pretty worn. The solid green .25s and peach .50s are pretty neat - most in better condition and they probably command a bit of a price premium. Higher denoms are more expensive, but you shouldn't need that many if it's a cash set.

Terribles are probably your best economical bet for cash if you want mint/near mint chips. They have a nice crisp/heavy feel to them. The colors/artwork isn't the best, but it's not bad either.

Aztar/Empress are nice and somewhat moderately priced. Empress low denoms are usually worn and Empress $1s are really expensive.

PCA/PNYs are really nice, but probably priced higher.

Won't pretty much all casino chips be pretty worn out?
There is a lot of condition variation in used chips. I'll do your wallet a favor and tell you there is no such thing as mint casino paulsons and you shouldn't waste time searching for them. [emoji6]

I have Empress (cash set), but getting high denoms are expensive and ones , as surferb said, are expensive and hard to find.

You could start with building a mixed set with what you can find now (ask here about prices when you find something) and then work on your "DREAM SET" as they come up. I started with the cheapest Empress and waited, bought some here and there for about 2 years and now I have a MINT cash set and a used set just in case I get 2 tables running.

Good luck, and welcome to PCF, may your wallet be empty and your racks be FULL, chips are sooo much better..

Sometimes casinos close before all of their chips get into circulation. The end result is mint condition casino chips. I happen to have a near mint cash set of Even Stevens up on eBay right now.

Nope. Pretty much none of my Paulson casino chips are worn at all, as most were purchased in new/mint condition. Alas, not 'for cheap' however. You get what you pay for.

Where I'm from we call that statement a "whopper!"
You guys are basically saying "weed is fun, but you should really try this crystal meth!" And I'm the bad guy? [emoji6]

In this scenario, I'm not sure which is crystal meth and which is heroin between mint Paulsons and CPCs. Welcome to PCF!

My gallery has some nice casino sets. You can check in my signature.

If you find a chip that you really like. SAVE FOR THEM. You'll always want the chips you like, buying other chips to fill that spot won't cut it, and you'll likely buy more than you need.

How big a game are you talking? Limit or big bet games? I have a couple sets, 1 for limit and 4-5 for big bet games.

Don't be scared away from worn chips. I happen to like the feel of them. As long as they are clean, though.

Others don't recall anyone saying
Par-a-dice chips were not too worn and cheaper.
Lucky Derby for cheaper but worn
Casablanca are good quality, not cheap for higher denominations

Good luck, follow the advice of save up and get what you want, not just hodgepodge mismatched, you'll regret it.

Those Aruba Palm Beach and Ambassadors are pretty sweet :D

I have an octagon table so most we'll be 8 deep.

Hey guys- just wanted to share with you what I have so far:

3 racks of $1 Casino de isthmus
2 racks of $5 classics
2 racks of $25 UBs
1.5 racks of $100 UBs (some of which are on the way)
10 $500 casino de isthmus

I have also ordered 2 racks of $5 Freddie's clubs and a sonic cleaner to give everything a good cleaning! I was going to say these should hold me down for a while, but who am I kidding, I've officially been bitten by the chip bug!

The other pic is my new poker table. I will post a separate review of it. Here's the link:
