With the @Gear labels that arrived today, I can finally put the last piece of my PCA/Empress tourney set in place. I am using PCA $25s and $100 and Empress $500 and $1000s and am labeling brick Casablanca $100s into the $5k chip for this set. I decided early on that I'd get labels for both PCA and Empress, but never committed to just how I would use those.

Do I label half the chips as PCAs and the other half as Empress or do I have PCA on one side of all chips and Empress as the other side (so someone could flip the chip over to the casino they want to look at...)?

Here's a pic of the chips in question along with the Casablanca on the sheet of labels for clarity.

I was pretty sure what I wanted to do, but thought I'd throw the question out there to see what everyone else thinks.

Thanks!!!

Empress!

I suppose since the higher denoms are Empress, that makes sense for the $5k as well. If you don’t have enough labels for full Empress only relabels, I guess label the rest as PCA’s until you get more..? ;)

That's a really clever idea! But it doesn't work in this particular set. The hypothetical two-faced chips are your highest denomination and are only coming out at the end of the tournament, and not in large quantities; they'll be seen on the table with Empress chips and not seen with PCA chips. I think you have to label them as Empress, to match the other two high-denom chips.

Now, if the progression had been something like this instead:

25 - PCA
100 - Empress
500 - relabel
1000 - PCA
5000 - Empress

... then making the relabeled 500s a two-faced chip with both Empress and PCA would be a unique, clever, and cool way to tie together the two different faces in your mixed set. At any point during the tournament you could be assured that both faces would be represented in pots and stacks.

But as it stands, with your first two denoms being PCA and your next two denoms being Empress, I think you have to make the last denom Empress as well, so that over time there's a transition away from PCA and into Empress.

This is going to be an amazing set, btw. I'm jealous. You should be proud. :)

Hmm, lots to think about here and even including an option I never considered (making the $5k's Empress only). I guess I always thought of this so much of a coherent set that it never occurred to me that it would be exclusively the Empress chips at the very end of a tournament. I will say that this is an intriguing idea, but would require hitting @Gear up again for more of the Empress labels.

I'll keep thinking and might even float the question to my group once we get our game restarted... hopefully in a couple weeks.

In the meantime, thanks for the idea! Let's see if there are additional thoughts one way or another.

I think there is no difference visually when there is a splash pot where all the chips are in play.

Only time there is a difference if you go for option 1 and each game you only take out either one of the labeled chips..
