I’d like to refer everybody to my “spot progression” rant. It’s all meaningless crap.
...
I say go with the red, then all three chips will have totally different and unrelated patterns. That certainly isn’t progression, but it’s a strange kind of consistency that I find satisfying.
Which was probably the point of edge spot colours/patterns (and chip size) in the first place. On a low resolution black and white CC monitor, all you needed was a way to differentiate each denom in play. As long as each chip looks different, from the side and from the face, that's all that mattered. The idea of "progression" is just something that chippers have decided to adopt, and definitions of "what is more/less complex" is often a matter of opinion.
And this is also why most solid chips in casinos are relegated to non-cash cheque status, like roulette and tournament.
