Hi, new member to the site here. I just bought some chips from Jim at the chip room. I purchased from Jim a Jack's set with everything except for $1's which I substituted with HSI secondary $1's. I think I may look into re-labeling my first set and I'm not sure where to start. Is it an expensive or time-consuming task re-labeling chips?

Easy process if you want a vinyl over label. Keeps the integrity of the original chip. Or you can murder (remove original label) and replace with a laminated label and it will look original.

Lots of posts here with examples.

Either way, @Gear is the man for labels

For my first set I think it would be wise of me not to murder the chips to keep some re-sale value if I ever wanted to sell for something different. Also I’m a little worried about re-labeling over my grand opening chips and how they would look

it should cost you about 30 bucks per 100 chips if your gonna do both sides which doesn't include custom art work, shipping etc
The first thing you should do after reading the forums is to order sample sheets from Gear, this way you can feel and see the difference in the options provided.
True untouched chips will have a higher resale value if someone is really looking for that particular casino, but even murdered chips will resale for most people care about colors, spot pattern, condition,
As it was said, many posts in the forum cover this discussion and there really detailed information in those posts

Just so you know, @Gear offers label samples, and if you go to his vendor page, he has some FAQ threads with helpful answers. To answer your question about relabeling Grand Opening or other oversized inlay chips, it isn't going to work great: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/faq-can-chips-with-oversized-inlays-be-relabelled.39544/

Additionally, @Gear usually has a month long backlog, so you might want to order now if you know mostly what you want, just to get in line. You don't pay or finalize your order until he goes to print them, and my understanding is that you can make changes to what you want while your waiting for him to get to you.
