Does anyone still sell Paulson World Tophat and Cane chips? If so, where can I buy some? Is it strictly a used market now?

Thanks,
Mike

No longer being manufactured, and most (all?) places that used to sell them no longer have any in stock.

Gah... A few years ago I bought a set of 1,000 for my home game. But since it's mainly a limit game, I only got two colors. I figured I'd get some more colors later, and now I'm having a hard time finding them...

I see some on eBay, but the seller wants > $4/chip.

This place claims to have them in stock:

http://www.pokerchest.com/

But the phone number for them is dead. Has anyone dealt with them?

I would say all websites that show them in stock are just old sites that had not been updated, or scams. Yes, there are scam websites.

$3-$4/chip appears to be the going rate.

If you have extras of the denoms you currently have, I would recommend selling those in order to procure more of the denoms you need. $3-$4 per chip seems to be the current asking rate... I don't know if they are actually selling for that price... maybe by the barrel. Not sure by the rack.

I don't want to sell or trade any of the chips I already have. I still host my limit home game, so I still use them regularly. I was just hoping to get some other colors. I have 25s and 100s. Am looking for any of the other denominations if anyone wants to sell some at a reasonable price.

I know there are listings out there, but I find it hard to believe that they're actually selling at $3-4 per chip, especially for fantasy lines. That's more than some of the original mint Paulson sets that are out there (including one that I'm selling right now!). I suppose the prices are possible if you've got a lot of people with sets who are trying to complete them now that the supply has dried up, but it still seems more like temporary price gouging. If I were trying to get anything more than a couple of barrels, I'd probably wait and see what happens.

If it's temporary, it's been going on a long damn time. I've been watching the WTH&C's market closely over the past year or so since I've been trying to get a rack of 25's to finish my set... waiting for the prices to become "reasonable" and it's not happening. I passed on them about 9 months ago when they were selling on eBay for $60 a barrel. The guy had 10+ barrels and they all sold. They haven't sold for less than that since. .

Now anytime they hit eBay, they are almost immediately snatched up at that price, and there is next to nothing being offered. The only time I've seen them go cheaper is when someone sold an entire set, And I think they still got $2.50 per.

Something is going to have to change for the price to come down again

I'm not a buyer at $3, but on the other hand I'm not a seller at that price either.

The 25 is the most sought after chip as it is used in both a tourney and cash set. The 25s sold out first when Paulson said they were stopping production

Did they update their site? They are currently showing "out of stock"...

http://www.pokerchest.com/paulson-top-hat-poker-chips.html

Not out of stock here:

http://www.pokerchest.com/500-clay-poker-chip-set.html

And here:

I actually placed an order for some. The credit card transaction hasn't cleared yet. And I can't get them to answer any emails or messages left through the form on the website. So I'm guessing they don't actually have any.

Also, their descriptions of the chips (colors and denominations) mix up the World THC and Classic THC in places.

^^ Thanks, I hadn't seen that link. I did do some searching, but missed it somehow.

Man, I paid around $1300 or thereabouts for my 1,000 WTHC chips a few years ago, including the racks and the case. Really kicking myself for not getting the other colors then...

i remember years back was the first time i paid $3 a chip for a barrel of mint $100 Outpost from M.Dambach...go ahead and do it, it doesnt hurt and you will get used to it...

I still got the barrel plus a rack of them....(y)

+1 to this.

Now to hijack the thread: Glad to see @bluesman250 on PCF! You, sir, are most welcome here! Not least because you designed the greatest hotstamped BCC GCR set ever. [/threadjack]

This is my quest as well.

I need the $.25, $.50, $1. $5. and am killing myself for not buying more when I had a full cart at @Apache
- TJB

Set Update - all i need now are the 0.25 and 0.50 World Top Hat and Cane chips. If anyone has them, I am more than interested. Please PM.

There were no 50c WTHC chips produced.

My guess is that there's probably a largeish market for people that want a set of nice Paulsons but without the casino inlays. Most members here obviously cherish these casino sets, but I'm personally not a fan of most of them. For example, a set of mint Grand Vics are pure gold to many chippers, but for my tastes, I'd honestly rather play with a set of China clay pharaohs than those. We each have our likes and dislikes. If I ever buy a set of Paulsons, it would likely only be the pharaohs or James Bond chips. I suspect there are others out there like me. They probably don't make their way to these forms very often though. Or at least don't hang around long if so.
