I've been here a year and a half. I just now got my first birdcage and matsui racks. Love them. Have like a random 3-4 packs of opened cards. Copag and something else I think.

Anyways, I couldn't tell you the difference from Modiano to some other name I don't know.

Hopefully I can somehow host in our new place and learn about what I like, but for now, I need cards. Any current solid deals on the cards you love? I'm not making it into a physical store anytime soon, so preferably online.

If I don't know anything about cards, do I just go grab Desjgns to support our guy? I have more questions as I read through the threads, but this is enough for now. Point me to cards!

Get samples. :D

Seriously, buy a variety and see what you like best. Desjgn, Modiano, Da Vinci, Gemaco, KEM, Copag all have fanboys. I like most of them.

Figure out if you like bridge or poker size, regular or jumbo index. I prefer bridge/jumbo.

You can support the good vendors here @desjgn, @Spinettis Gaming, @Apache. Maybe others too that I can’t think of.

Or this place has a good selection.

Designs are my go to. I love em. For me it's got to be bridge sized. I like standard index for circus games and jumbo index for holdem.

That should be your first step - figure out what size and format you like best and then get a bunch of samples.

I can send you some samples when I get back to Miami. I actually created some sample packs that I never gave out.

Do you like stiff cards or floppy ones? Textured or not? Bridge or poker? 2 or 4 color?

@desjgn cards are fantastic and I am not one to needlessly float boats. They are my second favs slightly behind KEM only because I like my cards very floppy.

I don't think I can even answer the questions above. I've never focused on chips until I found all of you hooligans, and honestly I've never looked much at cards.

I couldn't even tell you what I've used at the meetups, and at home games, everything I had was Copag. The only question I can really answer is 2 color over 4 color. I'm going to guess Bridge, because my love for many hole cards and tiny Trump hands.

Had no idea that samples could be a thing for cards, so that's perfect. RocAFella1 has a sample of jokers that I'm gonna grab, and hopefully go from there to going through whole decks and figuring it out. Thank you for the helpful quick replies!

I dislike Copag because of how thin and slippery they feel.

I love Desjgn! As long as you like the looks, go with Desijgn for sure! Treat yoself! And bridge with jumbo index is the nuts imo

We played Copag for a long time without question because they were the cheapest plastic cards on Amazon. They are still good. My main problem with them is that my players bend the card to an extreme and they crease. KEM are more flexible and less prone to the creasing that my crew is prone to. KEM almost feel organic and evolve over time. Don’t know how to explain it but I am crazy for them.

Honestly, there are a couple variety of cards that are widely available that will give you a good sense of what you like and you can dial it in from there. I have ordered several decks of these crazy obscure cards that people talk up o her wand have been disappointed very time. If you have used a lot of Copag don't bother until you have tried KEM and @desjgn where you can compare thickness and bendability. If you really identify with certain characteristics the. You can go obscure from there.

I personally love 4 color but I can’t get my crew over that hump. We have learned that we are all in on bridge-jumbo in addition to bendable cards to deal with our creasing players.

Get Fournier! Seriously. I know they are impossible to find here stateside but these people here https://www.naipeszaca.com/en/ have shipped to quite a few of us here (myself included - this is where I got the decks for my little giveaway) and they let you use Paypal on their site so you avoid any "foreign currency transaction fee" from the bank. Trust me once I got these I quit caring about Kem or Cogag. Fournier 2818 for poker, 2826 for bridge. You will love them.

The Bicycle Prestige decks are made in Spain by Fournier. Currently they are on clearance at Walgreens for $2.49 per deck...if you can find them. Check the website for availability

I got those the last time they were on sale. While I like them, they don't quite feel like the other Fournier 2818's I have. I wonder if they are actually Fournier 2500 series. You can check those out here https://www.naipeszaca.com/en/all-o...-poker-8420707351809.html#/26-back_colour-red

Also, check out this PCF Resource https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/the-redneck-poker-card-database-2-0.76/ @Dix has really done A LOT of homework for us here at PCF on cards and how they compare to each other.
Like handing some pre algebra kid a trig book. I'm all for reading and learning, but I'm gonna feel out cards first. I'll use that if I need to find stufff similar to something I like. And don't @ him 3 times, it's like Beetlegiuse.

In 12 pages of search, just a couple of stores have em in stock. Guessing it's worth the 20 min drive over to go pick em up? At this price, should I just empty them out to use as gifts and pot splashers?

In my area, the website is accurate, but there’s other threads going right now about these, and some have found decks at Walgreens stores even though the site says out of stock.

I didn't think I made it that complicated. I'm just a simple dumb*ss backwoods mountain redneck, if I can figure it out, anyone can. :D

Here's an idea for anyone wanting to get a feel for what they might prefer.... or, what I would do if it were me.

Start with a "cross section" variety of what's listed in the database. Say, 3 or 4 decks/sets that run the range of stiffness.

For example... if you picked up a deck each of say, Modiano Texas Poker, Copag Texas Hold'Em, Dal Negro Texas Poker, & Bullets Platinum (all available on Amazon in single decks), you'd have a variety that runs the gamut from soft, med.soft, medium, & stiff.

Alternately, if you wanted to throw finish coating into the mix as well, you could substitute a set of new Desjgns & Faded Spade for the decks of Dal Negro & Bullets.

Then, once you've had a chance to play with those for a while, you could get a feel for what you may want to try for future purchases.

Desjgn, +1 for Craig’s recommendation bridge size, regular index for circus games or anything with more than 2 hole cards, and jumbo index for Holdem.

Desjgn
Fournier
King Australia (the non warped ones)
Guilds can be found in Amazon and their warehouse is right in Texas

These are the best cards in the world and can all be found in poker or bridge size and in standard or jumbo index. Thank me later!

I hosted for a long time back in the day breaking out a new set up every game. I settled on the modiano platinum as my go to set up. I think They hold up the best against creasing, etc. copaq are too flimsy and crease immediately. I don’t like the coating on the KEMs which get to slippery especially after u wash your hands. Also worth noting is that a lot of poker players don’t like the jumbo acetate because u need to lift the card to hi off the felt to see the cards. I personally like it because I am old and can see the cards better. If u go to the modiano website and spend at least $250 u can get 20 percent off - discount code “Italy” or 10 percent off if u spend $100 - discount code “modiano”. I would buy 2 racks of 12 set ups (24 decks) - which with the 20% discount comes to about $15 per set up. Hope this helps.

+1 for Fournier. I am obsessed with my Fournier setup. I also love my Copag setups, but the Fourniers are much better quality and feel.

I know Desjgn is a forum vendor and I love the idea of giving back to the community but I know myself far too well and the slight off-center nature of the pips on the picture cards is, for me personally, the most tilting thing in the world. I like to think I have a great poker face, but if I got KK, my face would probably turn into Ralph Cramden’s lol

Oh and if it's desgns, jeez, which ones?!
That's a very good question. I used to recommend desjgn over everything else. Then he switched stock and I didn't love it as much. To my understanding, he's used at least three different kinds of stock over the years, probably more. So if you find one that feels right, and stick with that model, you're good. But it's absolutely true to say that not all desjgns are created equal.

I haven't seen any stores with 6-9 in stock. Definitely worth the drive and buy as many as they have at $2.49 each. The box is practically worth that much by itself! I love these cards, but my group requires jumbo index.

Yeah that raised my eyebrow too.
FWIW, I bet they have zero.

Walgreens online stock system seems to be way more accurate than most retailers, but maybe you are right, that 6-9 may be a red flag. If you go @BarrieJ3, make sure to ask if they have more in the back. I've only seen one rack designated for these cards, and it seems to be able to hold 4-5 decks at most.

People have said that on this thread, but in my search for these cards, I've found them to be just as bad as anything.
(but about what id expect for a $10 item that fits in your pocket)
