When Poker Players SHOW the BLUFF

Nothing hurts as much for poker players as finding out they’ve been bluffed at the poker table. And the bluffers? They just love to show it. What do you think? Part of the fun or just really bad etiquette?

Because my buddies think of me as a nit, I actively show the bluff sometimes.

But then, they're always more bummed when someone mucks without showing (the vast majority of the time). Being a bunch of lunatics, they're more entertained than offended by a successful bluff.

Take the free information.
In a serious game, information is rarely freely given. Personally, if I appear to be readily giving away information (i.e., by showing a bluff), my rationale to do so is to get paid later.

In a recreational setting, Paul Newman said it best:

Playing tourneys or cash games with friends we all love to show occasionally. If I’m playing in a casino I will rarely ever show when I don’t have to show.

But I think showing is never bad etiquette. Now the actions and words that accompany showing a bluff can be bad etiquette but simply turning over a bluff to show it is fine with me.

I don't show my bluffs to enjoy my opponent's misery or to rub it in their faces. I do it strategically, especially when playing with players I've never played against before, and when I want to send the other players at the table a message that when I get one through that I'm capable of it.

I voted "all in fun". I have showed a bluff before to players that I don't really care for. I'll play it off like its all in fun, but it really isn't. While I'm showing the bluff I'm contemplating how I can destroy them!

Free information always welcome.
I currently show most of my hands with my current group cause I’m teaching them how to play poker so they can see what a polarized range might look like or bluff/value bet candidates

This poll needs a third choice - strategy. The only time I show bluffs is when the table is playing so tight that I can't get paid off on my good hands. Show a few bluffs, and people loosen up. Then I get paid on my big hands.
