What's the Deal with PCA $1s (1 Viewer)

I don’t put the PCA Secondary $1 in the same class as other RHC. They’re leaded, have textured inlays, and stack like bricks.

What tilts me way more is seeing a PCA Secondary set with a replacement THC $1, particularly a blue $1 (not to offend those who’ve done it)...
So I really need to get my hands on a leaded RHC ... if only there was an auction or something.

I wonder how much of a premium the leaded/textured PCA RHC is over a standard RHC. But with the numbers of chips ordered, I guess it makes sense that they saved money by ordering the $1 in RHC. I wonder why other casinos don't do this ... seems like a good cost saving approach that would also prevent harvesting.

In other news, BearMetal gets banned for giving casinos an idea...

I thought @BGinGA had mentioned at least once that when the Star line chips were made there was no difference in cost in regards to RHC vs THC. It's been so long since I read those threads so maybe I'm wrong?

Well, if that's the case then what explanation is left other than @RocAFella1's comment about Missoura being "weird like that"

Most likely the $1 chip was on the RHC mold because the casino wanted a larger inlay to show off the name of the casino more. Much like the horrible Aztar $5. Be thankful that it was not a giant or Grand inlay!!!

The $1 chip being RHC doesn’t bother me. Would I prefer a THC, sure, but it is still very good.

I’d take the RHC regular inlay over the train wreck of the Aztar $5. All the other chips in that set are great, and the $5 is probably the worst chip ever.

the PCA $1 is a very nice chip.

So, I've always stayed away from oversized RHCs b/c of what people post here. I finally got a chance to grab some Aces $3s and I absolutely love them. I thought I'd be put off by the oversized inlay, but I wasn't. The Aztar $5 is a fugly chip, no doubt ... but I gotta say that oversized RHC ain't so bad.

To expand on the MO be weird theory, it might be that a Paulson rep from that time who worked the Missouri region liked to recommend that one chip be RHC, either $5 or $1. I don't think the casinos would independently decide that they should all make the $1 or $5 chip RHC, and the fact that they're all from a similar region and time makes me believe that it's likely from a weird rep.

So what you're saying is: "This is the Paulson rep for MO?"

i vote for this

GPI doesn't list prices per mold. You get an invoice after you've ordered.
Exactly. When ordering chips from GPI you don't ask questions, you just pay the bill. Perhaps one day I'll be able to put that philosophy into action. I guess with the casinos it comes down to dollars and cents. We as chippers let emotions come into play. I.E We all have a case of the I gotta haves.

Blue THCs are a no go, but @flipupchipup nailed the GOAT $1 for this set

I'm shocked but very glad that people have accepted the red-headed step child of PCA chips into their sets.
