Just officially pulled the trigger on @casinochipper22 ‘s Sycuan 1s that I plan to relabel as a .05 HSI.

Along the way, I also picked up two barrels of the beautiful Sycuan 2s, but don’t quite have a use for them yet.

Assuming I go blue/pink/white/red with .05/.25/1/5 (may consider .10, .50, 1, 5; but that’s for a different post), what should I relabel the Sycuan 2s to??

I’ve got a ton of $5s and 2 racks of $25s, so this less about filling a gap or building out the set’s bank, and more about finding a way to get another chip in play.

Prevailing ideas:
  • $10 chip
  • $20 chip
  • “Show ‘em” chip
  • Some other fun game mechanic chip like a “shut up” chip, “time”, “run it twice,” etc.
though it’s inefficient, I like the idea of a $10 chip, since I think a $10 will be more useful in $10-$20 buyin games that a $20 would. In higher stakes games I’d stick to using the standard 5s and 25s, so these are really only for .05/.10 up to maybe .25/.25

I like the lineup of the first picture. Use it as a $20 or use them as re-buy or show 'em chips if you think $20's are redundant with $25's also in the set. Hard to go wrong here!

Thank you for the input!

honestly not that opposed to a $20, since I think a $20 and a $25 serve different roles. Anything up to a .50 BB and I’d probably use the $20s as the highest denom/store of value since people will probably buy-re-buy in increments of $20.

Anything at or above $1BB and I’d use the more traditional $25, since people are likely to buy/re-buy in increments of $50 or $100

I say go all Cali on your set. White dime, red quarter, blue dollar, and yellow fiver. Keep the snapper and 25 as is, or you could make the snapper a 10 to make it more usable. And the edge spot progression won't be half bad...

Ahhh I’ve thought about this as well, and think it would look awesome. Could even use some Jack Primary 500s as purple Cali 25s

If the yellow Sycuans weren’t live chips and were cheaper to get in bulk and I didn’t already have a ton of HSI 5, I’d absolutely consider this.

Will pull together some sample set pics of this just for fun later tonight.

Well it sounds like from the stakes that you’re playing that the quarter would be the workhorse chip and you would want to have a ton of them. And two barrels of the yellows should be more than enough for a five. That’s a bank of $200 in 5s. That should be sufficient…

Ahhhh I get what you’re saying. I’ve got enough blues and whites to make this work, in theory. Will give it some thought tonight. Was initially hoping to have some set continuity all the way through, but could potentially split into a micro stakes (.05-$5) set and then a small stakes set ($1-$500). Hmmmm

With only 2 barrels, it would be hard to get any chip into a set as a playable denom.

For some games, it could be used as the big chip rebuy. Ex. 100NL game. Several deep stacks in the game. Use the chip as a $100 rebuy. The player then buys chips from one of the deep stacks.

The real question that matters most

How many of each colour do you have? Will help in giving denomination advice for where they fit in a set
2 barrels of the yellow chips; 6 racks of primary 5s.

this is sort of what I’m leaning towards - for 10NL or 20NL (which I play a ton with friends), it may function nicely as a rebuy chip.

It functionally won’t do much that the 5s couldn’t handle, but it would be fun to have an extra denomination on the table, especially if there are only a few.

If you look at a deep 5/10 game, you typically see a mix of $500 and $1000 chips on the table, even though they’re only a factor of 2x apart.

Since you only have 2 Barrel it will be prefect as a 50c for a different set in a 0.5/1 NLH game. You will only need 40 50c since they are solely used only as a Blind Chip.

Starting Stacking for 100BB will be 50c/$1/$5 4/18/16 so you only need 40 in total for a full ring table

My current 0.5/1 have been only using 2 barrel of 50c and we felt just the right number not too many not too little
