I want to purchase my first set of poker chips.. Paulson are quite expensive & I am not sure what the best alternative is, I hear clay is the best though so I was looking at the Pharaohs / Majestics.. I want the closest to the real thing in a casino / poker tournaments (for when I eventually go!).. I saw a sample set I could purchase for 11.99 but the shipping cost is like $40.. (Im located in Canada).

Im looking to spend about $300.. I realize my original budget of $150 is unrealistic for the quality I want. I want a wide variety of chips (5c-$25 range) and I expect to play games with $5-20 buy in with friends and such..

Im located in Mississauga Ontario, close to Toronto.. not sure if there's a reputable store that can help me out (with good prices) or a place I can purchase a chip test kit in Canada without extreme shipping costs.

Sorry if this is the wrong thread, first time posting!

There's a high end sample set available for Canadians. It doesn't have low-mid range plastics in there but it does have some ceramic options. Free for evaluation.

There are no local (ie. Canadian) retailers that sell decent chips.

You'll have to go to an American source or buy from the secondary market (see classified section).

You mentioned Pharaohs. There is a listing on Kijiji for some China clay Pharaohs that are near you (London). And it is a cash set. But it starts with 25¢ denom.

You could order some 5¢ chips from @Apache (a great retailer and a trusted forum vendor).

I think that ceramic chips may give you the best bang for your buck in that price range. I have a set of Desert Sands that I love. They are super durable.

Where is this available? I don't plan on buying the low-mid range plastic stuff anyways
