While looking at tommy's stardust chip set thread,I got to thinking. With all the chip sets some of you possess (and yes I'm jealous) how do you decide what set to play with? Occasions? Number of players?
just curious

I only have one cash set (my Three Putt Poker set) so that's an easy decision :)

For tourneys it all depends on my mood. For a while I only had one (Three Putt Poker w/ black inlays) but recently added another (BCC GCOP) so that's a tough decision come tourney time :)

I like to play with the nice sets that AREN'T the triple-combo of dead-mint, highly collectible, and nearly irreplaceable! :D

The sets that get the most play at my place are, in no particular order:

1) Paulson World TH&C, including some Apache semi-custom "Rose" NCV hot-stamps and White 25¢ hot-stamps.
2) Casino Miami, including the 50¢ "Peach" hot-stamps.
3) Casablanca (used SCVs with 7/8" textured inlays), including the "Hot Pink" (bubble gum!) $5s, bright "Day Green" $25s, "Gray" hundos, and "Purple" $500s.
4) Empress (primary)
5) Empress (secondary)

Sometimes it's a just a choice of which chip set will confuse and/or irritate the largest number of players. You know... increasing your odds a little bit! :D

My BCC Grand Championship of Poker set currently gets the most use (love those chips). Other tournament sets in the rotation include Paulson Grand Cardroom hot-stamped solids, and my ever-evolving mint/near-mint Paulson TH&C mixed-casino set -- currently existing of $25 Casino Aztar Caruthersville (secondary), $100 Casablanca Casino Aruba (gray 818), $500 Le Cove (fantasy), $1000 Empress Casino (primary), and $5000 ceramic Formal plaques.

Paulson TH&C sets that have never seen play (outside the casino) are Empress Casino (secondary/primary mix), President Casino on the Admiral (all mint secondary), Casablanca Casino Aruba, Grand Casino Biloxi (hot-stamps), Oak Tree Casino (RHC), Casino Aztar Evansville (RHC), and 20th Century Casino (fantasy set, mostly mint). Once the 20th Century set expansion has been completed (project in progress), it will move into the #1 or #2 spot. I also have a RHC-mold mixed-casino set re-label project underway, which will likely get added to the play rotation.

I mix it up.. well I used to mix it up more a year or so ago when I had 3 times as many cash sets as I do now.
I like to rotate blinds (.25/.50, .50/.50, $1/1 etc) so I have different sets for each blinds

Dave, You dont have a set of the Terribles??? and no custom CPC/ASM set? Dont recall ever seeing you have one?

Dave, You dont have a set of the Terribles??? and no custom CPC/ASM set? Dont recall ever seeing you have one?

I have a few racks of Terrible's - a mixed-Terrible's heads-up set and a few miscellaneous barrels of chips that I really liked when they were released (all mint). Some of those may end up being part of the RHC re-label project I mentioned (ducking Tommy's flailing arms, lol).

I do have a set of mint hot-stamped diasqr (MD-50) solids that I bought second-hand; it's unclear if they were made by ASM or Burt Co. (they just so happened to have my initial on them). I originally had plans in the works for a custom MD-50 inlay set when the Vegas disaster happened -- so I turned my attention to acquiring specific mint Paulson TH&C chips that I could re-label with my custom artwork. Now that CPC has brought back the possibility of custom chips with inlays, the direction of that set is once again up in the air.

I enjoy the excitement that is expressed when I get out a set that has not been used for months/years. I will get out my nice expensive mint chips only when the table is surrounded by people that appreciate them and treat them the way they should be treated.

For my weekly $1/1 mixed game, the set needs at least $6k bank and 5 racks of $5's or more so that leaves:

I'm waiting on stamps to get done for the add-on and then I'll be able to use these:

If I could get over my OCD, I could use these, but I have 2 different color $5's:

For tourneys I have a good selection, but I need to host more of those. This week, I'll be able to get 10 HU sets into play at our annual HU challenge!

I only have three bigger tournament sets left and they all see play in rotation: BCC Grand Championship of Poker, Paulson Grand Cardroom and President Casino on the Admiral secondary set.

I'm just TapaTalking

Use the following for my games:

Cash Game:
Nevada Jacks

Tournament:
Royal Yaks
Buggy's Hideaway (First Set so sentimental)

Last night I used my TRK King's Crowns inlay with a hotstamped .25 for a .50/1 game(I almost took my TRK Pick Hobsons because of the .50 chip)
At home I use my PNY's mostly rotating in ASM Rounders Replicas.
Outside my room, I usually take my PCR's.

Paulson Grand cardroom if i host 2 or 3 tables
for other torney it depends of my mood
For cash games mainly Dragonara B&G chips.

Only one set so far. The Dunes commemorative chips from Jim at The Chip Room. They work really well but I am starting to put together a small stakes cash set. It will be all Paulson chips and as I get going I will start a new topic. Would love a tourney set of hot stamps at some point.

gonna bust out the Even Stevens for cash this Saturday. Like to use my BCC Desert Plams for the tourney, such a great tourney set

All I have in Saudi at the moment is a mixed casino set. Mostly Terribles Mark twain but I'm short 1s, 100s, 500s. So I use Freddie's 1s and use the pink .50 as 100 chips. I need me some more Terribles!!!!!!

I only have my mixed hotstamp cash set at the moment. Soon I'll have my Iron Bank T set and one day my Iron Bank cash set.

I find it really hard to purchase sets unless they really catch my eye.

I only have two sets at the moment, so for tournaments I use the BCC GCOPs and for cash I use the BCC Proteges. I'll be pulling the trigger on a solid hotstamped tournament set soon and I'm very excited to put them into play.

More details about hotstamp set, customs or what?

From a couple years ago. I have since added two more cash sets, my TRK Riversides and Stardusts.

Awesome! What are the fracs in your Empress set? Fitzgerald quarters? They look great with the Empress secondary $1s.

I like to use different sets to keep the guys coming to the game interested in asking about chips and to not have any set get too much wear. I am fortunate enough to have a 1100 TROPICANA 2nd edition set that gets some use on rare occasions for cash games... I use the DUNES china clay set for tournies and Stardust tourney set which has quickly become the go to tourney set .. Other cash games sets that get heavy use.. CASA's ( as seen in the picture , Golden Broken Arrow ( for smaller games as I am actively looking for more ) and Stardust cash set....
