They are from either a different location, and/or the Poker Palace chips were released after a name change. The spotted frac series was issued around 1980; the solids around 1997.

I'd think that a couple of barrels of nickels would be pretty much useless unless you're playing heads-up....

i don't think I've ever seen them in quantity. You can find singles on eBay, but I feel like they go for $7-$15 apiece.
Edit - I think there's one guy out there with a playable set of Artichokes. Don't know if he's got nickels.

The only 5c chips you will find in playable quantities will be from home sets that people had custom ordered long ago.
