What Makes the "Grooves" in Edges of Paulson and BCCs? (1 Viewer)

If you look at Paulson and BCC chips very closely, it appears as if the rolling edges have lines or "grooves" on them. I've seem some people refer to this as edge "texture."

Here's a good example from @chkmte's BCC classified post...

Does anyone know how/why those grooves are there?
 
JM suggests in the following post from the blue wall that ASM/CPC uses a different methodology.

The Jim B. interview he mentions is linked here (also on blue wall), but I do not see any mention of lathing or rolling. It is a worthwhile read, nonetheless.

ASM didn't lathe chips like Paulson/BCC. You can see the difference on the edges if you hold one of each together. The Paulson/BCC have visible lathe marks, the ASM are perfectly smooth. I believe it was in JimB's interview he talked about how they use a roller system of some sort rather that a lathe, which gives them the real smooth edges.
