What makes a successful poker player? (1 Viewer)

Nerves of steel. Low emotions (if any), so no enthusiasm, no disappointment. Patience.
The most precious and hardest of all to have is a combination of courage and low ego.
A math brain is an important asset to make it the top.

Playing at a level where the chips represent nothing more than a way to keep score vs representing money. That level is different for different people, but it’s key IMO to being able to make the right decisions through good and bad.

Not necessarily in order:
  • Luck
  • Skill
  • Patience
  • Math
  • Bankroll
  • People (reading) skills - not so important online
  • Ability to remain calm after the maniac's 1 outer hits (again, for the fifth time this session)
Edit - you probably don't want to put too much weight on this response. I don't think that I qualify as a successful poker player...

Or just play with MatB but steal his horseshoe (note: stealing the horseshoe is not an easy path and starts with floating your boat down the River Styx).

Styx falls, an inlet to the world below, in Mount Aroania, the Peloponnese, Greece (altitutude around 8,000ft)

math tells you how to play your cards
math tells you how to manage your bankroll
math tells you which games and tables to sit at
math tells you not to get upset when you get unlucky
math tells you the difference between getting unlucky and playing badly

math

it's all math

math or go home
