What makes a great poker venue? (1 Viewer)

Nice table, chairs, lighting, cards, chips. I need water, and coffee available to me on a whim. A Knowledgable dealer that's a little chatty but not too chatty. The game needs to be fishy and chatty as I dont tend to want to exhaust energy losing up nits by creating a fun environment for them 24/7. I also prefer the players to be somewhat classy, clean, and overall chatty. I wouldn't want to personally play with someone who looks like they are homeless.

PS. Did I mention the game needs to be chatty?

You would like my home game lol.

Definitely; people and atmosphere.

And those are subjective so the threshold will vary from people to people.

Playing at a casino should be fun, it’s “a night out” and that kind of atmosphere is something that I only found in Vegas where lot of people are there for holidays or for a weened break. In general, chatty tables, cosmopolitan and a mix of players. Downside: noisy and time to time some drunk people that are allowed as long as it’s beneficial for the casino. If you consider that a casino should be some classy kinda of place that you expect James Bond to show up then try Europe.

Some casinos in Austria and Switzerland still requiring a shirt and tie to get in, they rent whatever you may need at the reception. While you will be in a cozy, classy, quiet atmosphere. In general I found those place boring and the people are not interesting. It’s also more expensive stakes are 10$/20$ in my local casino and usually not less than 5$/10$.

London at the Victoria have found a nice balance, where the low stakes tables are provided to players without dealers and there are an hourly rake. 5£, 10£ and 25£ tables provides dealers. I do not like France casinos, although less expensive (easy to find 1€ / 1€ games) the game is waaaaay too loose for me so your bankroll will be a rollercoaster.

Lastly, Buenos Aires, is kind of fun. People are more relax. I have found the “a night out” attitude but expect to play with expats and only a few locals.

Poker rooms: For what I’ve seen in Europe, most of them are full of young players and students, the rooms are generally small places and they run tourneys and cash games in parallel. My first choice will be Prague because: beautiful young women at the table, even if you lose it will be a nice evening. Booze is quite cheap.

While in general casinos have more room, better chip and tables there are noisy. Poker rooms are smaller, chips are ceramic and friendlier. My preference goes for the second because of the people.

The place I miss the most which I thought was one of the best on the Vegas strip was Tropicana poker room. Brand new tables, new chips, friendly but professional dealers and they even had a complimentary drinks fridge where you could get water, soft drinks etc. Sadly this room doesn't exist anymore, probably making way for more slots, grrrrr
