Hey all, I'm new to this forum and only registered because I wanted to buy a couple of poker chips I used to play with as a memento.

As I spend more time looking through this forum, I have a feeling I might end up building a proper set of chips (this may turn out to be an expensive hobby..)

Just curious as to what got you guys started? Was it to buy chips for a home game, or because you found a chip you liked and decided to build out a full set, or..?

For me, at least initially it was to get a set of chips in order to run a casino fundraising party on at least a semi-annual basis. I knew I wanted a custom set of chips for security reasons. I also wanted to start off simply, and run Blackjack. I found that a set of ceramics was my best option at the time that allowed for maximum design flexibility and budget. The parties have all been James Bond-themed affairs, so I based my chip and table designs off that.

The parties have been going strong since 2013, with lots of local charities benefitting. Only thing to stop it this year was the pandemic. Hopefully will be able to start these up again by next year.

I began my collection by keeping a chip from every casino I played poker in. Still doing that but I’ve now moved onto a new chapter where my kids are getting old enough to play and I’d like decent chips for family games. While I build that set (it’s going to take some time), the goal has morphed into also landing a few unique ‘fun’ sets for those games. And down the rabbit hole I go!

Played for years with dice chips and never thought twice about it. Got to the point where different groups had the colors set at different denominations and it annoyed me to no end.

Searched online for better chips and found Milanos. Mind was blown by how amazing they were.

Then stumbled upon chip talk and found people were using actual "casino weight" chips. ;) I was intrigued but the site was pretty much dead. Found a post referencing "the other site" and eventually made my way here. Ordered a sample set of Rounders from CPC and Milanos suddenly didn't seem that great.

Sometimes my mind wanders back to that Milano purchase and wishes I had quit the internet right after that.

My local casino growing up was Mystic Lake just south of the Twin Cities. I grew up playing blackjack with Bud Jones chips, and when I was in my early 20s I decided to try to find some old BJ chips. That brought me to CT back in the day and to my first couple purchases from TCR.

For most of my early chipping I thought buying clay chips was a waste of money because the chips would eventually crumble whereas plastics last forever.

Now I like clay chips and plastics.

Welcome.

I was looking for WTHC cash and tourney set for home game. Pcf showed up in the top seach results. Stayed and upgraded several times to mixed cash thc sets. Handful of rhc sets too.

Started because of height differences between chips for a cheap "laser" set I have....wanted to know if there was something better out there.

Found CT (and subsequently PCF when it started), and started down the rabbit hole. Also discovered plastic cards and really wanted to know more there. Now I have decent clay and ceramic tourney sets, a ceramic cash set, a china clay cash set, and enough plastic cards from most manufacturers to last me a lifetime. Yet I have more cards coming in, hopefully soon.

Starting playing poker around 2003. The no limit craze and the 10,000 buy-in main event just lured me into playing. I would search the internet for poker chips. Pokerchipmania and Apache were the sites I was drawn to the most. I was trying to convince myself to spend a large amount of money on Paulson poker chips at $1.15 a chip  :ROFLMAO:. I had a hard time pulling the trigger. Finally, purchased the classic poker chips. I purchased like 600 of them. I didn't get heavy into collecting until I joined PCF. It's been a good roller coaster rider ever since.

mine was the search for custom chips

I like most on this site am responsible for the games with my friends, started liek all with Dice Chips, then to plastic chips with denominations, on to the Milanos (which I do still like) and from there won big one night and decided I wanted to create my own person poker chip, found PCF and Sean's group buy and SO IT BEGINS......

i don't know if I will collect chips or even sets, i do always take a chip from every casino I have ever played at, So i guess i do collect those

but this site is so much more than poker chips, since joining i have bought

Cards
Cases
Pizza Oven
Rolling Hot Dog Cooker

so you see.....RUN AWAY, RUN AWAY before you get infected

by the way, welcome to the site

I just wanted a poker table from @T_Chan . In addition to working out details for a design and all the ins and outs, he mentioned PCF. . .

The journey that has entailed from signing up here, is well documented on this site.

I only wanted a single set of chips for cash and Tournament. I was changed to the camp of separate sets for these two games, on day 1.

I had an initial budget of $0.50/chip and figured that was ballin'. :ROFLMAO::ROFL: :ROFLMAO: LMAO at myself..

The condition I'm in now, with being a collector, as opposed to an owner purposefully using the chips, happened to me inadvertently. Just an addiction. It has taken hold and I've been completely consumed by it. I'm into singles, samples, and I have more than enough sets for the game I used to run. COVID stopped my game in its tracks. I started up buying chips in March of 2019 and started hosting in August of 2019. I've not been able to peruse over half my chips. Very sad.

It was 1996ish and I was in a billiards store that was in the mall next to my house. They had pool tables, roulette wheels, blackjack tables, poker tables and all types of gaming supplies. I stumbled upon the following md-67 unicorn mold chip.

They were more expensive than the dice chips we were using at the time but they looked and felt much better, plus I could buy them in many cool looking colors. Fast forward a few years and my cousins ex wife took them in a messy divorce situation. She knew they were not worth much but it was a spite thing I suppose.

Now with this internet thing taking off I decided to use it to look for replacement chips. I find places like chiptalk and homepokertourny.com. These two places change my poker life. I started buying paulsons and whatever else I could get my hands on ever since. My only regret is that I wish I never sold any of the chips I ever owned. Good luck!!!

I have a theory. That people like Tony and @Hobbyphilic who are responsible for us being here are just AI extensions of PCF. Maybe Tommy too. Anyone who disagrees is a bot. Skynet anyone?

Tony exists. But, technically, I have no proof that he is not a highly advanced cyborg intent on humanity's destruction. But then I think, why wouldn't he have been made (even) more impressively? ;)

Coolest thing is, Tony is local for me. Just a 40 min drive away.

He invited me into his shop, showed me ES Cash chips...ESPT Tournament set...PCA cash... Paulson Pharaoh's...it was a sampling for the ages. He let me take a barrel home to play with. Just an incredible person!

Ok, so it's confirmed that you're a bot, and Tony is some sort of advanced machinery capable of constructing poker tables when order is placed. Kind of like a car assembly line only with more robotic arms and lasers.

but in all seriousness, that is absolutely cool. One of the things that drew me into this community was that some people like yourself actually had personal contact with some of the vendors like Tony. You're absolutely right; Tony's awesome. And now you've made me very jealous too.

My local Cardroom was playing freeroll MTTs with the 15g Monte Carlos with the hologram on them. Thought to myself “damn these chips are amazing.”

Then I found this place and y’all ruined me. Ended up buying a set of the Monte Carlos though. They’re a fun beater set. Everyone loves the big numbers on them.

Yep, that’s exactly right! PlayEd with cash for decades. Then just needed something new to keep the game more unique between houses.
Lol well if that's the goal then you probably need at least 1 set for every month and a different cash set from tournament set every month!

@Hobbyphilic is to blame for me. I didn't come right away, it was around the 5th video for me. "Go check out PCF for cool chips just like these"
Like I said, he doesn't exist. He's an AI extension of PCF with the single goal to draw us all in.

"Well", you say, "I've seen him in the videos. He has to be real".

Deep. Fake. Hologram.
