What are your thoughts? Been obsessively thinking about it.

I broke it down to:
100x 25c
120x 1
180x 5
80x 25

20x 100

Used for mainly for 4 handed PLO and 6/8 handed NLH

Figured there one or two of you out there that have decided on a 500set :D

Also, if you have bought a 500set and saw it as a hassle, let me know why!

EDIT: TYPO

If you can stretch it to 600, that’s more ideal.
100/200/200/80/20 (PCF approved)

If you must cap out at 500, then other options
100/200/180/20 or 100/200/160/40 if enough bank

Apparently something like this haha

What do you mean by 25c/$1/$2? Does that mean sometimes you'll be playing $1/$2 NLHE, and sometimes you'll be playing that or PLO for lower stakes, or what?

I like
100 25c
200 $1
300 $5
80 $25
20 $100
I like 25c/50c with $100 max buy-ins. Games usually plays as 50c /$1 because everyone straddles. Having the extra rack of fives I think is better for re-buys.
You can get by with less chips but who wants less when you can have more:)

What blind structure are you playing? My response might be tweaked a little based on this.

For a .25/.50 game, I would have the least amount of $25 chips as possible, as they will honestly hardly get into play if you have lots of $5 chips.

100 quarters
180 $1
200 $5
20 $25

For a .50/$1 game, I'd skip the quarters all together and get 50 cent fracs.

100 half dollars
160 $1
200 $5
40 $25

As others have said, stretching to 600 chips is ideal:

100 half dollars
200 $1
240 $5
60 $25

For the record, I have not suggested stretching to 600 chips.
I don't understand what the blinds might be..

Ive only ever hosted $0.25/0.50.

My 2 cash sets are well above 500 chips, but if it had to be capped at 500

100 x $0.25
200 x $1
200 x $5

I'd have no reason to have $25s or more. Still have never felted a $25 at any of my games.

If you are limited to 500 chips:
100 x 25c
180 x $1
180 x $5
40 x $25

How deep is this game usually? If it's $10 buy in, that'll be fine, if it's $100 buy-ins, we're talking different set recommendations.

What are you blinds? Are you playing 25c/25c or 25c/50c no limit and $1/$2 pot limit?

And what's a typical buy-in and how much do you get on the table?

For example, last night I played @MrCatPants and with 9 players and there was nearly $2k on the table by the end (average >$200 buy-ins per player). To swing this in a 500 chip set, you'd need:
.25 x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 160
$25 x 40
Total bank of $2025.

In this scenario, personally, I would up to 600 chips:
.25 x 100
$1 x 200
$5 x 200
$25 x 100
Total bank of $3725 just in case!

If, however, you're only getting 4 players for PLO who bring $100 each it's way larger than you need.

If I was limited to a 500 chip set, I would break it down as follows:

100x .25
160x 1.00
220x 5.00
20x 25.00

I like to have a few barrels of $5s for rebuys before I jump to the $25s.

Is the smallest game you will spread 0.25-0.25 or 0.25-0.50. In the first case go with what everyone else has said

100 * 0.25
200 * 1
200 * 5 (or 160 * 5 and 40* 25)

If the smallest game is 0.25-0.50, consider switching to 0.50-0.50 and cutting back on fracs.

60 * 0.50
140 * 1
260 * 5
40 * 25

If it had to be 500 chips I'd do:

100 - .25
100 - $1
240 - $5
40 - $25
20 - $100

Ideally capping it at 500 forces odd breakdowns and I think 6-700 are a much better place for chip sets. I try to avoid having too many big chips on the table, the $5 chip is the action chip baby!

For NL25 (25c-25c) and NL50 (25c-50c)
120 x 0.25
170 x 1
180 x 5
30 x 25

First buyin = 12/17/x

Without knowing the buy-ins and how your game plays, I'm going to say the most ideal breakdown is:

100 - quarters ($3/per player and one of those players gets $4)
160 - ones (that's 2 barrels per player)
220 - fives (i've learned that this is by far the most flexible chip in most games)
20 - 25's or 20's. (in case things get really rough)

In my mind, when I build a set with a predetermined limit, I only want to plan out the two lowest denoms. The remaining chips will help make change and cover abnormal levels of play. Your breakdown should really depend on what you like and how intense your game gets. Everything will change once you can gauge that.

Three/Seven re-buys average. Sometimes I break it down to a 10c/30c using 1s, and 5s, etc. Dividing everything by 10.

PS your breakdown looks like a homerun

If truly limited to 500, all of the breakdowns posted so far have too many fracs. You need workhorse chips—that is a priority for flexibility.
I would go with:

80 x 25¢
160 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $25
20 x $100

And if you can swing more chips, this fella’s advice is wise, thoughtful and without peer on this exact topic; in addition he is a hell of a guy:

I don’t play those stakes, but I would tend to think you would need more 1s than quarters or 5s.

My current setup:

120 x 25¢
180 x $1
175 x $5
25 x $25

Bank of $1,710.

Great for .25/.50 if you do no more than a 120BB max buy in on a 9 person single table, which is 28.5 max buyins. That's more than 3 total buyins per player. Even works great for .25/.25, 120BB per player on a 9 person table totals 57 max buyins.

Could do better by having 100 quarters and adding 20 more $1's or $5's.
