What is your ideal [500ct] 25c/$1/$2 cash game chip breakdown? (2 Viewers)

If truly limited to 500, all of the breakdowns posted so far have too many fracs. You need workhorse chips—that is a priority for flexibility.
I would go with:

80 x 25¢
160 x $1
200 x $5
40 x $25
20 x $100

And if you can swing more chips, this fella’s advice is wise, thoughtful and without peer on this exact topic; in addition he is a hell of a guy:

Agree with this completely. If the game is 8 players max 80 fracs is more than enough. Have to maximize every chip possible in the set.

What are your thoughts? Been obsessively thinking about it.

I broke it down to:
100x 25c
120x 1
180x 5
80x 25

20x 100

Used for mainly for 4 handed PLO and 6/8 handed NLH

Figured there one or two of you out there that have decided on a 500set :D

Also, if you have bought a 500set and saw it as a hassle, let me know why!

EDIT: TYPO

What stakes are you playing? What are people buying in for? It's not possible to answer this question without that info.

If you're playing .25/.50 I'd suggest if you can find a set with 50 cent chips, start playing .50/.50 and you'll need many fewer fracs - you could get by with as few as 40.

Inspired by this post, I'm going with more or less exactly double this breakdown for my 1,000 set, potentially covering two 8max tables 0.25/0.25 up to a small 1/1:

160 x 25¢
320 x $1
400 x $5
100 x $20
20 x $100

Thanks gopher!

The only reason I disagree with this breakdown is because we don’t know how the game plays. An aggressive game would probably fit this well. However, if your players are very limpy and calling stations, you can see a situation where after 2/3 hands, you end up with a majority of the fracs in one or two players stacks. At that point, you’re constantly having to make change with other players and this slows the gameplay imo.

Edit: Not to mention, without knowing how the game plays, a barrel of hundreds imo is overkill unless we are talking future proofing. Based on his OPs liking of the post with a single barrel of $20’s, I seriously doubt he’s getting more than $1500 on the table in his game.

I might suggest just keeping it a round 300 x $1, and adding an extra barrel of Hundos, to add more bank. 150 x $1 per table is fine in a pinch.

If you have OCD like me, I would round up/down to the nearest rack. The only rack that doesn't trigger my OCD is 80x$25 & 20x$100 because $25s rarely hit the felt and $100s never.

Howdy,

You guys were wicked big help! After all this, I ended up going with..

100 x 25c (pink)
200 x 1 (blue)
180 x 5 (red)
20 x 25. (green)

You all helped me realize big chips are mostly gonna stay tucked away, and this is not a tourney set. :whistling:

I will post pics when the juice comes in this week!

To be a little more in depth:

Total Bank = 3,125

Lots of re-buys
x78 rb @ $40
x52 rb @ $60
x31 rb @ $100
x15 rb @ $200 (RARE)

Also, if the day ever comes, $100 plaques/jetons (aka custom dealer buttons), are gonna be my go-to.
