What got you into chipping (1 Viewer)

I bought the collector's edition of Fallout New Vegas and it came with a stack of 7 poker chips. I'm pretty sure they're "official casino weight" plastic chips but I learnt to do a few poker chip tricks with them and always thought that they were pretty cool.

Fast forward a bunch of years and I was in the market for a set, which led me to @Hobbyphilic's YouTube channel and here!

Parents took me to Vegas when I was younger and when I got old enough to go myself loved the chips they used and would grab $1 from various casinos. We use to play various card games before the big poker boom and everyone always had the cheap dice chips. Then when the poker boom hit I started my own game for tournaments and wanted the good stuff so I bought a custom set of Chipcos, which I still have...bit wanted a different set for cash games and down the rabbit hole I went. Had several Paulson’s sets including, Le Coves, New Yorkers, San Juan Puerto Rico’s and 05 JB CDI’s. Ended up with 4 poker tables, 40 chairs, plenty of drink carts. Ended up selling most stuff as it almost cost me a divorce when my kids were younger. Now the kids are all grown up, I gave the wife the boot, and got back into poker!! Still have a couple tables, my large sets of Chipcos and JB CDI

I met a guy named @T_Chan ...

The rest after that day..is well documented and photographed on this site! What a tremendous man, wicked human being, terrible enabler! :ROFLMAO:

Nothing but respect Tony! You showed me way too much candy, fulfilled my dreams, and WOW! LOVE IT!

had a buddy with a 98 cdi set. either that or watching poker on tv and noticing the different types of chips.

Like @Josh Kifer , I got started via HomePokerTourney.

I was looking to host a home game, and found @WedgeRock , Doctor Neau, and probably @detroitdad, as well as a few others. My group had outgrown the custom set I was using, and the supplier couldn't get me any more, so add-ons were not possible. Someone on HPT mentioned CHipTalk, and a group but for (the precursors to) Championship Poker Series chips.

The CPS chips were originally going to be 16¢ a chip. That price-point was a pipe dream that failed, but the dream was picked up by PGI. The process took months. In the time that it took, I learned about CPC. Next thing I knew I had 2 brand new sets ordered.

BTW, if you are that person that mentioned the original CPS buy on HomePokerTourney...

Thank you. :hearts:

...and fuck you. :bigbucks:

I started hosting more regular games, still had dice chips, and the amount of times people asked "how much is this one worth?" drove me completely insane. First I made a sign that lists the denominations (which is kinda hilarious thinking back on it), then I had the eureka moment on Google where I found this forum and Apache Poker Chips.

This is my first post also @chrismurda.

I recently got into poker about 1.5 years ago and been obsessed ever since. Played in about 4 different casinos so far and been collecting $1 and $5 chips.

Found out the chips I loved most so far happen to be the Paulson chips (not sure of the specifics). They’re so nice but pretty expensive after looking into it.

I was debating on going back to one of the casinos and just getting 100 of the $1’s for my first set since I loved them so much. They recently got new chips about 4 months ago I think the floor told me (Horseshoe Southern Indiana)? But all the chips they use are somewhat bright colored and are beautiful. Being doing some research into chips that look like them.

Funny enough, until last year, I hadn't really played poker in years. Stumbled upon the short lived Friday Night Poker streaming games on Facebook watch that were on in late 2018 (found it stumbling around staying up late when my son was really little and sleeping only at 3 or 4 hour clips). The cash games kept me entertained as I was "up on my shift" and decided that I wanted to get my home game up and going again after the craziness of finishing grad school and house renovations was over.

Got the majority of my old group playing again, along with a couple of new faces. Decided that I wanted to upgrade my chips and cards. Found a set of Poker Knights on ThePokerStore, then graduated to Majestic China Clays from Apache, then to casino used Horseshoe Cincinnati's for my first Paulsons, then to semi custom Key West Resort and Casino CPC's, then to mint Jack RHC's, then to BCC's, then to Rounders CPC on CSQ mold, and now almost done with my CDI '98 THC set. Have a custom CPC set upcoming later this year.

With cards, went from paper Bicycle decks to Copags, then Kems, and then to Dal Negro, NTP's, ModiaNO's, Fournier's, and thanks to this forum, desjgn, which are probably my favorite overall cards right now, along with Fournier's.

It's been a hell of a ride for the past year!

New to chips myself, but looking for a step above the standard dice chips. There's so many options and styles it's great!

1. 'What's the cheapest non-casino set I can find?'
2. 'What's the cheapest, but closest to casino-grade chips I can find?'
3. 'What's it like to have a Paulson set?'
4. 'What do mint Paulsons feel like?'
5. ???
6. 'Fuck'
Reminded me of the first 40 seconds or so of this scene....

Starting play poker with the guys with small stakes tournaments using cheap dice or other plastic slugged chips.

Took a trip to Vegas where I actually looked closer to the chips and noticed how nice they were.

When i got back home I wondered if there was a forum for poker chips or poker chip collectors. That made me eventually stumble onto Chiptalk.net

Browsed around for a while before ordering my first set of ceramic chips. The guys all said wow these are really nice! Played with those for a few months before I got tired of them, upgraded to better ceramics. Then got some bud jones. Then got my hands on to some of my first Paulsons. It's been downhill ever since.

I started a fun/casual home game with dice chips... then upgraded to a better table surface... then got better cards... then realized I needed better chips.

I ended up at CT, and lurked for quite a while. I finally signed up so I could buy some CPS chips from Apache after the pre-orders closed down.

After that, the rest is history. Down the wormhole I went. :p

This is how I ended up here:

2001 - A group of guys from work got together, played poker with cash no chips
2003 - Chris Moneymaker effect, started playing Texas Hold'em with cheap plastic chips (no pictures)
2004 - bought 2 - 500 piece dice chip sets in a wood case for like $300 each off eBay. I though these were great.

2013 - Joined PCF

Current:
Everything has been replaced - new table, chairs, chips, dealer button etc. The only thing that remains is the base from my first table (Rail was replaced and it is now used as a 2nd table when needed).

Vegas, started collecting $5 chips from every casino I visited. Started playing poker, but go never really get a regular game going. Fast forward a few years, and the group of friends I have loves it. We have 7-10 regular players, so finally decided to get real chips. I found the chip room President sale and bought a Cinci cash set. We normally just play 25/25. Right now I’m using a rack of $25 dollar chips for the fracs. Looking for real fracs or something colorful I can relabel, but nothing in the budget yet.
