I purchased the set below last year, and don't have big tournaments. I like the idea of being able to host a 10 to 20 person tournament at PCF gatherings, but have some concerns:

- The range of 25 to 100,000 seems too big. I think that I would either use: 25/100/500/1000 or 500/1000/5000/25000/100000
- I like the 500/1000/5000/25000 colors the most, the 25 are ok, and I am not excited about either the 100 or 100000. This doesn't make them bad, but just goes to my personal taste (or lack thereof)

In short, the set is far bigger then my needs. What would you do with them?

Thanks for your feedback!

All of these chips are beautiful, and can become even more beautiful with new labels:)
What you would sell is up to you; if yes, dibs on 50X T25 chips:)

You do know that I have run a 60 player T10K freeze out with a whole lot less than this, right?
I did not know that, but it doesn't surprise me either. What was your breakdown on that set?

I'd say do a PCF giveaway for the entire set...

1. Give them to me John, keep them in the local family
2. Keep them yourself John and bury your feelings of doubt about keeping the set
3. Think about adding a 500k chip for kicks
4. Keep your AS set you are selling and buy some AS 100k plaques, if we get them made
5. Give them to me John, keep them in the local family

1 and 5 are the….nvm.

2300 chips is a HUGE tournament set. You could easily host a 50-60 person game with rebuys and add ons.

It seems like you don't love them. For that reason alone you should sell them and acquire something more to your liking.

I agree that a 25-100k spread is kind of absurd. Unless you're running a multi-day deepstack event, there's no way you're going to get the 100ks in play.

I agree 100%. Interestingly enough, I love the 500 to 25000 chips. The purple, orange, pink, and green work well. I also think that the blue $1 circus circus 818 chips would work as well for the set. I will likely sell 400 - 500 each of the 25 and 100 chips, along with 200 of the 1000, and 100 each of the 5000, 25000, and 100000 in the very near future. Just want to mull it over for a couple more days.

Those are beautiful! How are they called? Can they be bought online? Thanks for any tips.

What would you do with them?
Figure out the most you’ll realistically need and sell the rest. You could even work it out so you sell it in tournament sets.
I’d be looking to do this^. I might be willing to keep a denom on the bottom- or top-end of the set if it really helped to make what’s leftover more sellable.

For what’s left: sample sets, barrels, shuffle stacks, individual racks, shorthanded/travel sets, and heads up sets (40/40/20) might be ways to get creative and move on from what you don’t want or need.

Looks like Empress Star Secondary Tournament chips. There will be no more ever made and you can only buy them in a private sale. I don’t know the current market prices but that picture has gotta be at least $10,000 worth of chips.

That's a shame, thanks.

Seems like a pretty good investment. I don't think the market for these are going to crash anytime soon. Do you need the money?

Do I need the money - no
Would the money enable me to pursue some other projects - yes

They're not making any more of these. Would the opportunity cost of hanging on to them outweigh the satisfaction you would get from other projects?

Like others have a suggested, maybe break up the set and keep what you would reasonably use. That way you get the best of both worlds, no regret for selling all the chips, while recouping some of your costs to pursue other projects.

However, if it were me, I would hoard these like Smaug and find another way to finance my other projects. Even from a pure investment perspective, I'd expect these to hold their value if not appreciate over time.

They’ve already appreciated. The appreciation that these, and other elite chips have made over the past couple of years is insane. Of course anything is possible, but I’d say it’s as likely as not that they’re at their peak value today.
If you pay attention to the smart people here, who have been in this hobby for decades, you’ll hear a lot of “poker chips are a stupid investment.”
By all means, keep them if you love them. Hoard them like Smaug, if that’s your thing. But calling them an investment would be reckless on any day, let alone immediately after a period of unprecedented appreciation.
