What are your chipping goals? When do you reach your "chipping nirvana" ? (2 Viewers)

Here’s my chipping nirvana in a nutshell: I want to own pretty chips in playable quantities that tell a story and are difficult to acquire.

Pretty. Playable. Storied. Rare.

While terms like leaded, THC, shaped inlays, and casino were my original goals, those are now just bonuses in my larger pursuit — not the goals themselves. Subscribing to Pretty-Playable-Storied-Rare has given me permission to let go of sets I wasn’t particularly in love with yet kept simply because they met some random criteria of physical traits. I've also pursued chips I would have otherwise shunned and really enjoy them.

So now, after what feels like a long 2.5 years here on PCF, I’m basically 3 racks away from reaching a near-term nirvana — two of which appear to be completely locked up, and the third a tedious singles journey. I’m content with that. I recognize I’m still an infant in this hobby and am grateful for where I’ve landed.

I do also dream of scoring an even “grailier” set someday, but only 3 or 4 come to mind that could supplant a current one. I choose not to actively pursue them. If they find me, great. Otherwise I love the sets I’m keeping.

So now, as I wait for my next “epiphany” (or the damn racks I need :LOL: :laugh:), my goals are simply to:
  1. Get rid of every “trade bait” rack of chips I own that doesn’t belong to a keeper set, even if it means losing “leverage” down the road.
  2. Help as many others as I can in that process.
  3. Attend some meetups.
I’ve been pretty faithful in this pursuit and my chipping headspace has been much better for it.

Every set I own scores quite well on my make-believe Pretty-Playable-Storied-Rare chart … including some incredible leaded THC sets, two great TRK sets, and a few thousand Tigers for good measure. That’s about it.

Tigers are coincidentally my only unleaded set(s). They’re just so damn pretty & playable, and they make for a killer story around the poker table. And if you don’t think they’re rare, go find me some extra secondary $1s & $20s and primary $100s. :whistle: :whistling:

Anyways, 2,000-ish more chips to sell/trade, plenty of chippers to help, and countless meetups to consider.

Nirvana may or may not appear, but I’ll take it.

That's a lot of words without "CPC" written anywhere :cool.

I honestly think I'm in the same boat. Just have some small gaps/relabels to fill in and one-at-a-time chips to finish up two projects.

The only trait I likely wouldn't screw up right now is playable. The rest are debatable.

I will say it's been remarkable realizing how many chippers follow a similar path. For that reason, I don't put it past me.

Idk, I keep telling myself I have enough chips and then get sucked into buying something else haha. Really all I needed was 1 micro to low stakes set and 1 tournament set, but I'm up to 3 micro sets and a tournament set. Going forwards I want to finish my THC set, and not start anything else this year. Long term I'd like a hotstamp set and to design a custom set, whether it's CPC or ceramic.

Well said @aggie! Great post!
Hopefully will get the chance to splash pots at a meet up with some of your sets.

I'm pretty new to the poker chip community and only have a set of China Clay Dunes, but right now my grail set is a set of CPC Rounders. I will probably have to save up for a minute to afford them, but once I get them I hope poker chip bug will go away.

Personally, I think it’s about meaning.

I go for the 1) the chips I can play with, then 2) the chips that have meaning (where have I been, what have I done, how did I get them)

That said…. 1 is the issue.

Having a couple sets to play with is tricky/slippery…..

Can I get an old casino set for a cash game? A rare set? A compilation set of different racks? Old school Vegas? Being able to change out as people come over is interesting. Keeping games fresh.

I think I’m getting there. Sold off over 3,000 chips I was never going to use. I’m now down to four large sets:

* Suits mold (PCR/Avalon) cash
* Custom THC cash (in production)
* Mixed JD/JC/Faux Jack tourney
* Solid THC tourney

Ohhh, but I forgot I also have those 1,500 milled ASM/CPC H-molds. Was going to make inlays for a hybrid cash/tourney set, as a tribute to my grandfather’s jazz band, for a family vacation home... Or sell the solids and make these my second tourney set.

So I’m not really done, of course.

I'm fairly certain I am done (starting any sets at least). I have multiple tournament sets (a couple large ones to handle MTT) and enough cash sets to cover me for the rest of my life (need to be certain as most RHC and everyone says they wear out).

How I know I'm done is that I wa sable to completely sit out of two TCR sales, and rarely check out classifieds posts. My desire to buy is entirely quenched.

There is hope fellow chip buying degenerates!

I've been priced out. With chips going for $400-$1200 a rack its just not worth it anymore. I have a nice HSI Secondary set that I bought piecemeal over 18 months at reasonable prices. But at today's prices I'm not so sure. On the bright side, my set has doubled in value.

Complete, custom sets. Maybe 7-10. 39 and 43mm. Cash sets and one tourney set. Rotate sets for sessions. Dump my extras and incompletes. Collect singles. Play better poker.

My dream is to have
Main event clay tournament set - Orderd CPC on the way!
Standard tournament set Matsui (Ceramic will have to do, until Im ready to pay for a custom Matsui inner ring)
Custom Cash set from CPC that works for multiple tables and able to spread limit games as well, this is on the plan for the next few years but it will cost me a lot...

I've started building up this Uber, Uber long-term goal that I anticipate will change many times before I get there.

I want to build a private game room with craps, roulette, blackjack, and poker. All custom felt layouts with nice tables. I also want a little bar area that's futuristic and styled, with custom glassware. Of course my current set's "noodle chip" could be expanded to cocktails and small snacks as well.

Of course I can see this goal evolving. Me wanting to woodwork my own table, or a full casino quantity of CPC chips (or straight up Paulson's if I can work the logistics of it). Then things spiral out of control and I find myself going in with other investors in property on the Las Vegas Strip...

Gonna have to get very lucky to ever get there though. Financially everything is a long way away xD
