i know CPC adds brass to some of their chips, for weight, and you can see it in the clay, but I've never noticed it with a Paulson.
But there are definitely flecks of something in this Paulson. Is it the lead? I wish I could get a better picture of it. Why don't iPhone's have a macro mold.
This is a bicentennial chip from Harvey's.

It's actually asbestos. Send it to me immediately and I will find a safe place for it!

Lol. Paulson adds metallic flecks to their chips as well. See the grand Victorias. They had huge flecks from the $25's up.

Huh. I hadn't noticed that before.
Now I'm gonna have to get my glasses and a light and check out all my other paulsons.

The Paulson Par-A-Dice chips have metal flakes too. I am too lazy to go downstairs and check but i think the 25 and up have them.

I have wondered the same thing. Why only do it for the higher denoms though? I have never actually weighed them, but does that mean the higher denoms weigh more?

It's my understanding that the flakes are for added weight in the CPC/ASM chips. And Paul-son uses the flakes in higher denoms as a security measure.

Also interesting about the metal flecks in Paul-son chips, is that there are different shapes and sizes. If look closely at this PNY $25 chip the flecks in the dark green body are small dot like glitter that has a gold tint and in the edge spot of a lighter aqua green the flecks are silver and long sharp pieces. .......that aqua green spot also glows like crazy under uv light. Kinda cool

These flakes was my main issue with the grand vics. Is adding this something paulson did a long time ago and has stopped doing? I haven't noticed it in the horseshoes. Or was the gvs just particularly bad?

100% correct. Brass flakes for ASM/CPC, typically aluminium and other light metals for Paulson.

Argosy and Hollywood Lawrenceburg chips have them too. That's also the closest casino to Grand Vic.

The Harvey's chip in the OP is not Paulson; it's CPC/ASM progenitor The Burt Company. (So I think the flecks are brass.)

Interesting.
What do you think about the chip's twin brother? Paulson or Burt?
It doesn't seem to have the same flecks in the blue.

Burt/ASM/CPC have non-brass colors like Retro Blue so I'd say it's a Burt chip, too. There are also some colors only available during the Burt era, so I'm not necessarily saying it's Retro Blue on that chip, but I do believe it is a Burt chip.

On CPC's website under "About Us" David mentions that Burt came out with the house mold first for Golden Nugget in 1954 and then for other casinos, so we know Burt did house molds. :)

Not sure if this helps, but you can see from the side by side that the reds are different too.

Not Paulson. Those edge patterns were/are not available.
