What are some of the unwritten rules of poker? (1 Viewer)

My personal favorite....
Cashing out, and giving your 1 extra quarter to the host and saying “for the house”. It’s a quarter!!! What the heck is that helping ???

sorry guys... I’d rather you throw the quarter in a pot or just leave it on the table. But saying “for the house” with a quarter is almost insulting

If you are playing in a private cash game, don’t leave unannounced after a big pot win.
This^ but always correct someone who states, "you should give people a chance to win their money back." This is NOT, in any way, why it is rude to hit and run. The object is to amass chips and keep them lol.

It is rude because a hit and run equates to, "I don't give a f@&$ about y'alls company, I'm here for the money" which, of course, is not the sole (or even principal) purpose of a social game.

If you go to the bathroom and don’t miss playing a hand then you weren’t gone long enough to have washed your hands.
This can be accomplished at games where players exhibit some of the game slowing behaviors discussed in this thread, however.

Or, take a bathroom break in an orbit of Omaha 3-2-1. You'll have plenty of time!

In split pot games or multiple allins, unless you are the dealer or you've been asked by the dealer, do not shout out split numbers and definitely do not start moving pots around. 20 hands in a pot never ever works.

Any pretzel with clear salt instead of white salt that God intended. As for me and my house we serve UTZ. Snyder’s can rot in hell and so help me if I am forced to eat one, I will, because it’s salty carbs. But I’m gonna play angry and spewey.

If there isn't a dedicated dealer at your single table game, and it's down to 2 players and you're already knocked out.... Guess what? You're the dealer.

Lend a hand and do what you can to keep the game moving.

Our standard comment is "Hey Jimmy, what would it look like if you played poker?"
I played with my brother and his buddies (terrible poker, but fun!), and they'd say "Hey Kurt, if it was your turn to act, what would you do?" or "If you were dealing, what do you think the turn card would look like?", etc. :)

Noted. I know what I’m bringing next game

just some common sense ones?
Please stop shaking your leg
Cough or sneeze away from the table
a shower before the game goes a long way in a 5 to 6 hour game
NO you cant use a percentage calculator
and Please just enjoy whatever is playing on the playlist no complaints or I will just put opera on

Best pretzels ever! Try'em if you can find 'em. Totally addicting.

Drink the crappy beer that you brought, not the expensive craft beer that I brought.
First game in our neighborhood. Had just moved in, so had to go quickly grab a bunch of beer and chips to bring with me. Super nice house, nice host. Said fridge was full and open, grab whatever you wanted. Was excited to see a favorite of mine I hadn't had in some time. Cracked em open, split a 6 pack with my table neighbor who dug em as well.

Literally as we cheersed after a large pot (bad bluff, bad hero call ended in split) and drank the last drops, cue LARGE man at the fridge who just got felted bellow, "Who the fuck drank my beer?" Hadn't seen chips cower until then.

This is one of the rules on my master rules sheet but I've got a guy who almost regularly tries to do this:

"Do not 'color up' from active pots."

Do you mean, say, take a green out of the pot and toss in five reds?
Or, do you mean make change from an overvalue chip?
Or, both?

Shaking of the leg is an incredible useful tell. Just sayin'.
As far as changing the music...

First one. He'll try to dump excess $1's for $5's or 25¢'s for $1's almost every time he comes.

Other than that he's an ok dude and has been a regular for years so... not "uninviting" him.

If people have too many of one denomination I don't mind if exchanges are made with other players. JUST NOT FROM ACTIVE POTS!

Yep. This is why I made the distinction of a private cash game. If I am playing cash at the casino I have no problem walking away after a pot win. I am not there for the company.

Completely agree on don't touch the hosts

Meh. When I host I don't mind if my hand gets folded. If I go to do something I don't expect the whole game to stop. Usually I will just check my hand and let people know its a fold before leaving anyway.

Also as far as getting rebuys back on the table usually those are all set out beforehand so it literally only takes a few seconds.

If a big hand is developing you should STFU. Even if you aren't talking specifically about what cards they could have etc. people need relative peace to think things through. Not a big deal in smaller stakes games but if someone is being put to a decision for a large sum then respect that they might need a minute or so to mull it over without annoying banter.

This has popped up on Reddit a couple times recently:

If you win a pot and somebody is sheepish about showing their cards, just flip up your hand and let the guy muck. No need insulting a guy making him show his loser because "I paid to see it".
