I recently acquired a couple of chips from a casino named Les Croupiers, in Cardiff, Wales. I had never heard of this casino. It's of particular interest to me because my mother was Welsh, and half my relatives live there.

Their 20 tables of poker offer: "Texas HoldEm, 3/4 Card Irish,
4/6 Card Omaha Hi, 4/6 Card Omaha Hi/Lo, 5/7 Card Stud"

Hold'em and stud, no problem. But can anyone explain "3/4 Card Irish", and the "4/6" Omaha descriptions?

TIA!

The Irish game is as described in various places on the Web is a four-card deal, two cards discarded after the flop of a hold'em/Omaha type board.

I can't find a three-card variant of this, but that option seems likely -- i.e., three down cards, with one discarded after the flop.

From Wikipedia
Irish poker
is a variation of Texas Hold 'em. Each player is dealt four cards before the flop. After the betting round on the flop is completed each player must discard two cards. From this point the game is played exactly like Texas hold 'em with betting after the turn and river. At showdown each player uses their remaining two cards along with the board to construct a hand.[1]

I found something that described 4/5/6 Omaha as a pot limit game that the player can chose 4 5 or 6 cards omaha. They can choose when it becomes their button.

Every time I think of Wales I just think of this

Yes, 86 letters long. As I mentioned to David, I can actually pronounce it reasonably well -- it was drummed into my head at an early age. Once you can handle the opening "Ll", it's not too bad. And I made a pilgrimage to LlanfairPG on my first adult trip to Wales -- how could you not?

And thank you for not mentioning that cheap Australian town with the name specifically manufactured (in the 1970s, iirc) to be even longer...
