Two Pair
Just like the title says, what is the weirdest, most peculiar thing to happen to you at a poker tournament? Please, no bad beat stories (recipient or perpetrator). Just something that caught you off guard. I'll start ...
I was in Vegas playing the Sunday evening HORSE tournament at The Orleans Casino a while ago. Table was a mix of old and younger players, locals and visitors like myself. I was in between two retired ladies. Lady on the right was a retired elementary school teacher, lady on my left was a retired high school principal. So, I knew that I was in a bit of a bind, stuck in between two rocks ... so I would have to change my play a little.
Tournament was progressing nicely, and I was floating around the average stack. Nothing too exciting going on and the table chatter is about where to eat, what shows to see, which ones to avoid, blah-blah. Mid-way through OMAHA, school teacher turns to me and asks me if I would be interested in a little Trivial Pursuit? I says "Pardon?" She asks again. I said to myself "WTF???" Under my breath so I don't offend her.
I says; "Ma'am you do realize that we are playing in a Poker Tournament?" She says, "Absolutely! But it will help pass the time in between hands". Before I could respond, the principal says, "I'd like to play." So, the teacher reaches into her bottomless purse; you know those ones big enough to carry a body around in, and pulls out a wad of cards. Pulls off the elastic band, and fires up the questions.
I say to myself, "This can't be happening!"
They go back and forth for a few minutes. Dealers were cool with it and answered the odd question from time to time. Teacher kept the TP cards off the table and backed away a little when asking questions, so the TD left her alone for the most part. Meanwhile, I can't concentrate anymore and other people at the table are joining in when not in the hand so I follow suit.
By the time we made it to the break, there were a number of us sitting at an empty table hammering each other with TP questions. Truth be told, I didn't care about the tournament after the break and busted out shortly there after. However, it was the tournament that I had the most fun in, while I was in Vegas!
Weird or what?
