Hi everyone!

I've been murdering some chips these days, in fact, 6 racks of chips :cool
I'm very surprised about the variable weight of the different chips.

These are weights without labels, I didn't think about weighing them before murdering, so I will appreciate it if someone could weigh their chips and tell me how much they weight with the original labl.

1. HSI $5 without labels - 8.6 gr/chip

2. Jack Cincy $25 - 7.3 gr/chip , but a beautiful chip

3. Jack Cincy $1 - 9.3 gr/chip

4. HS Cincy $100 prim - 9 gr/chip

I've weighted my other chips (these ones are labeled), and these are de numbers:
  • HS Cincy $5 - 9.3 gr / chip
  • HS Cleveland $25 - 9.5 gr / chip
  • HS Cincy $100 primary - 9.2 gr / chip
  • Casablanca $500 (purple) - 11.3 gr / chip
How much does each label weigh?

Thank you!
Carlos

@Gear might also be able to tell us the weight variation in the different types of labels he uses and how much difference things like laminated make in weight

First off, different colors have different weights. This can be seen when looking at some sets...same mold, same inlay, but different colors with very different weights.
Next is the size of the indentation for the inlay. Since the inlay on that Jack cincy is smaller, that means more clay/weight.

When milling chips, I was amazed how much lighter chips got. Going from a hotstamp to a 7/8” very shallow recess often removed a whole gram of weight!

The only solution is aftermarket leaded labels. Or maybe plutonium.
Haha, I know nobody can add 1-2 gr of weight in a chip only with a label, I'm Catalan, not an idiot
I'm talking about 0.1 or 0.2 gr more than the current labels with vinyl and lamination, although I suppose with serious risk of spinning...

I tested some Gear samples on chips. The thickest label produced no change in the feel regarding weight.
Drill out a small hole, drop in a lead slug, cover with label. WEIGHT.

The moral of the story is we need to be careful with how much weight we put into the labels we give to each other…

Before and after with Gear laminated labels. Original inlays were removed.

And I think shows how little of the material was removed from the $5’s when milling them. Same weight before and after!

Picked up a small Aladdin's Vegas house mold set that were drilled. Thought I'd compare the weight of these to other Vegas house molds. Results were a little surprising.
