Wanting to build or buy a cash set.... Budget under $1500 / Advise? (1 Viewer)

I assume you're looking for customs? For your budget & quantity I'd get BRPoker or Tina ceramics. You could maybe get away with CPC clay if you go simple spot patterns (and that's not a bad choice).

If not set on customs check out the Classifieds, sets come up there regularly.

If you want to go cheap get something from Apache and have Gear do you up some inlays.

If you want quality and new, CPC is probably the way to go for that price target. Right now CPC has in stock fantasy sets for around $200 a rack. (Rounders, Atlantic Club, Chesterfields). If you are willing to wait and put in the time, you could do a small custom CPC set for around that price too.

Otherwise I would just monitor the classifieds for a used set of Paulson's to pop up.

Custom ceramics or stock ceramics from BRPro as mentioned are a great choice, if you like ceramics.

If you prefer clay, there are some decent Paulson casino sets that are well within your budget. The only real problem you will face is that almost none of them have a 25c chip, or if they do a rack will eat up most of your budget itself. So you are then looking at labeling a different chip to match the set.

A <$2/chip low denom set is definitely casino used RHC range. Horseshoe Southern Indiana, Lake Elsinore, Jumers(?), and Horseshoe Cleveland come to mind. The fracs (25 or 50 cents) will be hard to find at that price point and the most budget conscious alternative is to label your own as suggested above. But casino used $1s and $5s from recent chip room sales should fit the bill nicely for you.

IMHO, other than the 25 cent chips, it would be easy to assemble a nice Paulson set within budget and size. A bit of patience, and it can be done.

Figure $3/chip for fracs and $1.50 to $2.50/chip for all other denominations. That’ll get you a nice RHC set.

breakdown I'm thinking would be like

.25 - 100
1.00 - 240
5.00 - 240
25.00 - 100
100.00 - 20

I will sell this. 43 mm, $400 shipped. I'll allow add-ons via BRPRO

U got a few options here with that budget

U can build mint RHC Paulson set with $1500. U can get $1, $5, $25 at around $2 +/-, $100 at $3 ++ and fracs can be either relabel or use starburst as fracs.

An example as below

Used Paulson set is also an option, there is quite a number of casino set being sold by TCR in recent years and price can be tracked from the classified.

Decent to very good used Paulson set are usually price $1+ for $1/5/25 and $2+ for $100

An example as below

Order from CPC stock like rounders is another option, u can get 600 for around $1200-$1300 depending on stock and denomination

There is also Casino grade plastic set available at a much affordable pricing. Price can vary and they shown up often in classified. There are much more affordable so you can either get a bigger set or incur less spending per set

A couple set for example

Also there is also the very affordable route like Ceramic with Card Mold being the most common. They are usually priced around 40c but will take some shipping time (a couple months) if you joining via a GB

A used RHC paulson set is definitely in your budget. Another option is the gemaco Tropicana set that was sold recently from the chip room, I think I spent less than $400 for a full set and they're great.

This is $700 outside of your price range. It will cover one table at any of the stakes listed. It could stretch to 14-16 players for most of what you are looking for.

You should be able to sell off a rack of ones, fives, and a barrel of the 100's or 500's to get your 700 back (I would think, but not positive).

All chips are in great condition.

So..... Still a newbie but wanting to get myself a nice cash set. I plan on playing .25/.50, 50/1.00, and 1.00/2.00 depending on the group I'm hosting. Can you give me some good suggestions of sets under $1500.00? Would like no more than a 600-700 chip set.

Get customs from CPC doing exactly the sort of design @MeridianFC kindly demonstrated above. 600 Chips at less than 2.50 a piece is very doable at CPC as long as the spot progressions stay relatively simple.

If you don't want to get full customs, Key West (site vendor) has stock chips made by CPC that are well within your price range as well.

My only concern is this is is a pretty wide range of stakes for a 600 chip set, 25¢-25¢, 25¢-50¢, and 50¢-1 all would do okay with a 100/200/200/80/20 breakdown of 25¢/1/5/25/100. But really at least 200 more fives are needed if you are really planning 1-2.

If you like ceramics, you can certainly get a custom or semi-custom set from @ABC Gifts and Awards for about half your budget.

The BRPro ceramics are a nice chip for the lower budget. I have had a set of Tikis for a while and my group loves them. I am actually selling the cash side of my set and converting it to a tournament set only. It is well within your budget and you can add 25s and 100s from BRPro and still be well within your budget. I am selling them cheaper than new if you like this style of chip:

I've got 2000 super-diamonds I'd sell for $1500. Just let me know the denominations you want and I'll break out the sharpie. Theyre really nice!

Do you have any pictures?
lol, I can send some pics and even sell them to you, but just to clarify, super-diamonds are cheap plastic chips, typically 10 cents each when brand new. They dont have denominations or labels. I was trying to be funny, thought the part about putting denoms on with a sharpie was making it obvious. But if you are really interested, pm me we can figure something out.

600 chips for a .25/.50 game and a $1/$2 game?

100 .25
200 $1s
300 $5s
80 $20/$25s and 20 $100s?

Not a ton of wiggle room when wanting a 600 chip set to fit both games.

I have NO idea why everyone is assuming you want customs? Right now is a buyers market, chips are temporarily tanking because every one wants to buy Tiger chips, if you don't know, just search "Tiger" in titles.

You can get a solid set at a great price, if you would have posted a week ago you could've built a full set for $1500 with Starbursts for fracs, would've been a 700ish chip set here https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/indiana-grand-1s-5s-100s-or-primary-set.99677/

Take a look around, look for cash sets that have been posted in the last two weeks that have price drops. If you don't know if something is a good deal, reach out to members and ask or post it here and ask for reference/pricing.

I would suggest taking your time to research and make sure you like the chips you buy, but also make a decision quickly. Tiger chips finish selling soon, and there's still some chips being listed for ridiculous prices despite being plentiful and worn. I'd guess that this market dip won't last forever.

The only plug I have for my chips would be these https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/rhc-cash-set-just-add-5s-850-shipped.99763/

300 $1s, 200 $25s, 20 $100s for $850. Can throw in 80 Starbursts for .25s or .50s for $80.

Add two racks of Jumers and it's an 800 near mint Paulson RHC set for $1330. Gotta love a market dip!

I'm actually thinking that maybe I just buy the Jumers and set aside a near mint RHC set for that price  :ROFLMAO:

I would not purchase the Jumer's linked above. YMMV but they are regularly being listed by end users/buyers at the same pricing as the vendor pricing, and you can generally message people to get a further discount if desired (since they're available in multiple places). I.e. https://www.pokerchipforum.com/threads/trimming-my-jumers-set-new-like-new-conditions.99997/

That being said, there is value in just getting them all from one place and being done with it for $1200.

I'd say the Tropicana's in that same link are a solid choice at $350 if you don't mind having a frac that doesn't match. If you just want a set quick for now, and want to look further at things later, cheap sets that can resell for around the same price are a good move. Like these, another great budget option are the Cards molds. They seem to be coming up quite often now, just search for them. For reference, a lot of people jack up the price, they should be being listed for about .40 a chip or $40 a rack (and you should be able to sell them quite easily at the same price or for a very tiny loss).

It looks like $1500 might be a good sweet spot for so many types of sets that can cover 600-700 cash chips:
- CPC custom
- CPC stock
- Ceramic custom
- Ceramic stock
- Casino used or mint
- Personal / fantasy sets

Maybe it would help if you told us what a "nice" set is to you. Do you want something unique (aka custom) or do you want something that feels good to you (plastic/ceramic/clay, etc). You've got a lot of options, so let's start narrowing down your preferences.

Watching this thread to get ideas for future sets in this price range :ad::ah:
