Playing the $260, 30k guaranteed at Derby Lane Poker Room in St Pete, thoroughly unimpressed with their tourney chips

The poker room manager responded to my tagged social media post in person at the tournament, which was cool

Hoping to get her to a meetup so she can experience some of the amazing chipsets out there

Aside from the chips, the rest of the room was good

Staff, chairs and spacing of tables

What blew me away was the tourney structure. I have NEVER seen one that good, @BGinGA would give it his seal of approval

They have a 250/500 lvl, then 300/600, then 400/800, 500/1k, 600/1200, 800/1600

There are antes but they aren't stupid, they stay the same on multiple levels

Just a TON of play in this event. I commended her highly on the fantastic structure and she said it's because unlike most card room managers, she's also a poker player herself

Now we just need to give her the chip bug

I believe those are ICON chips, actually fairly common at casinos. Not very impressive, but durable and functional.

Yeah, I was gonna say ICON. Horrible chips. They started popping up in Vegas three or four years ago. They don't seem as durable as a standard ceramic chip. The inks seem to fade faster. They do however look like they have a faceplate that is glued in. Maybe to allow rfid or some such?

I think you're right. For the low price of 62¢, plus a couple of labels you can run huge stacks in every tournament.

ICON not my favorite chips. Not my least favorite, either. But they are at the bottom of the available casino options pile imo, short of using injection-molded slugged plastics from China.

Hey, don't make fun of my chips. I love them. ;)
