Hey everyone! Starting a new table build, wanted to post my journey.

Right now I'm in the design phase, however, here are my plans:
  • Custom cloth from Chanman
  • Raised rail with diffused plastic siding
  • Jumbo cupholders in rail, cupholders centered to chest (gasp) (cupholders on mockup arent spaced correctly on the sides, just for mockup purposes :p)
  • Gorilla legs
  • Dealer cutout, but no tray (lots of my games will have a dedicated dealer, but then we'll have cash some times)
  • Addressable LED strip connected to an arduino in the rail. The color will be blue around the edge by default, then Tournament Director will then change the color on pause to red, subtle flashing when the blinds are coming up, and then a flash sequence when the blinds go up. Looking into this, it looks like it can easily be driven through a script across wifi to the arduino, and with Tournament Director there are countless ways to have the script fire this.
Definitely looking for feedback if you have it! Kind of contemplating if this is too dark, but it might print a little lighter than it looks, saving it always makes it look darker.

I will be posting details and photos as I go along!

Have you heard of a raspberry pi? It is the same thing. It is a micro computer that you can program to control things, it has a ton of uses and is super compact, runs off 5v. You can connect it to wifi and use it to sequence the LEDs through code. With an addressable light strip you can program each and every LED separately.

Thanks for the explanation. Now I can put it out of my mind as anything I could accomplish on one of my tables! Good luck with it, very interested to see what you might be able to do.

They do make addressable LED strips with simple controllers that are pre programmed to do cool scenes... like chasing rainbow designs, flashing lights, fading.. controlled through your phone. Same concept of being able to control each LED but in an easy to use format.

I like the idea of being able to announce when blinds might be changing, break period etc.

My table also has a raised rail, and I like it. I also have a chanman cloth and highly recommend it. How high of a raised rail are you going for?

Thanks. To me, the useful functions would be to indicate who is the dealer (and maybe small and big blind), and to have it flash when the blinds go up. For the dealer function, a section of LEDs in front of the dealer could be a different color that maybe dims as time goes by so that you could tell whether it was moved already. This would probably wind up being more cumbersome to use than would be worth it. But having the lights flash when the blinds go up if integrated with the Tournament Director software would be cool.

Right, I thought of the dealer change but managing it doesn't sound fun, so I just want it to automate everything else. When the clock is paused, countdown to when break is finishing, blinds up etc etc.

Still not 100 percent sure on this, thinking either 1.5" or 2". How do you like yours, and what height is it? I want it subtle, nothing crazy.

Mine is really subtle. I believe it's 3/4".
If the rail is too deep I've heard that it can be awkward. I think 2" is well within reason though. I like the 3/4" and if I did another one I'd do either this or maybe 1.5".

That looks amazing. I think 2 inch would be easiest in terms of construction, especially with the LED strip, might go with that. Not too crazy high.
 
I know that @T_Chan has made rails 67mm (or so) deep so that it's the exact height of a stack of minty clay chips....

Oooooo... my wife will never find out that I spent this much time contemplating the height of the rail... she will think I'm crazy
